My comments about language access as a form of equity and resiliency, especially important during emerging public health/safety situations so communities are not left behind.

We have the tools, knowledge, resources to do this. Why not make it a best practice. The evolving #WuFlu situation brings back vivid memories of SARS, when I just happen to job shadow the executive director of the Centre for Disease Control here in Vancouver for a week, as set up by my high school career councillor.

For those wondering why there are increasing conflicts between pro-nation state China and pro-HK folks, it is due to different understandings and beliefs of what the #HongKongProtests are about:

📍Richmond, Canada.

As a 'community organizer', I can confirm that this is the biggest intellectual and public psyche blindspots we have in Canada, especially Vancouver.

e.g. I'm still shocked by how little knowledge those with power knows of the "Chinese" community and geopolitics in Asia. The reliance on opportunistic and biased brokers, who themselves arguably don't have a full enough grasp of local "Chinese" community dynamics, only sets up the community for further tokenization, licensing of agendas, and reinforces rifts between "Chinese" groups.

#hongkongprotest rally in Vancouver. Mainland China nationalists showed up. Hong Kong solidarity group chanting #freehongkong and #twosystems while China nationalists chanting #onechina and “take off your masks” and singing the Chinese national anthem

#cansavehk Nationalists chanting “we love Hong Kong” and “we love China” with banner that says “Hong Kong is part of Chinatown”.
