/ Maybe you knew the #TransMountainPipeline was a bad deal. But were you aware of the sheer scope of the damage it’s going to cause in frontline communities and to the environment? Watch the press conference we just held based on new research: facebook.com/standearth/vid…
/ Whether you’re looking to learn more about #TransMountain or want the inside scoop on how to stop this #pipeline *wink wink* this latest report has everything you need. #cdnpoli

/ Head to one of the links above to get the whole scoop, but here are the top lines:
/ IMPACT 1: #TransMountain will expand the Westridge Tanker Terminal & build 14 new tank farms in Burnaby. This could cause obstruction of the Burrard Inlet and an increased risk of a disastrous collision.
/ A fire at the tank farm would force thousands of people to be evacuated, with students and faculty at Simon Fraser University (@SFU) *potentially being left without an escape route.*
/ IMPACT 2: #TransMountain will greatly expand the Sumas Tank Farm in Abbotsford. Since 1994, there have been five spills here. Meanwhile, the Auguston neighbourhood surrounding the tank farm is one of the fastest growing and highly populated areas of the city...
/ IMPACT 3: #TransMountain will construct Coquihalla River crossings for the pipeline at 5 different locations. The method used to create these crossings could be devastating for fish species and the communities and businesses that rely on them.
/ IMPACT 4: #TransMountain requires work camps (also known as man camps) throughout the construction period. Historically, these man camps have been strongly correlated with dramatic increases in rates of sexual violence towards women in the communities surrounding the camps.
/ Evidence suggests that Indigenous women and girls are subjected to the worst of the negative impacts of resource extraction at every phase.
/ IMPACT 5: Ongoing delays threaten the financial viability of #TransMountain. The Parliamentary Budget Office, an independent watchdog, has warned that delays and cost overruns threaten the financial viability of the whole project.
/ Our report finds that the #pipeline still doesn’t have an approved route, faces more challenges in the courts, and recently Trans Mountain CEO Ian Anderson was forced to admit that the project had been set back by another six months.
/ Despite the mounting evidence that the pipeline is in financial trouble, the federal government has signaled they are ready to spend billions more on this growing boondoggle.
/ So to recap: not only is #TransMountain a disaster for the climate, the coast, and Indigenous rights, but it’s fast becoming a government boondoggle of epic proportions.
Say it with us: Trans 👏 Mountain 👏 won't 👏 be 👏 built 👏
