#China-US relationship is certainly changing from one characterized to some extent by economic co-operation to one perhaps characterized by more economic and geo-political competition, said WTO Chief Economist Robert Coopman, mp.weixin.qq.com/s/YiIAgIDS-i2C… 1/5

The US economy has slowed down more than the US administration expected, partly due to uncertainty around trade policy affecting US firms investment decisions, as well higher prices causing firms and consumers to reduce purchases more than the US administration was expecting. 2/5

While the US administration may be surprised most economists were predicting just such an outcome. If the trade conflict continues, and/or expands to other products and countries (#automobiles? #Brexit?) we can expect even greater negative impact on global economic growth. 3/5

#Tariffbarriers between US and Europe are quite low. They do have substantial differences in regulatory approaches, what we refer to as non tariff measures, that reduce trade between them. Those differences reflect societal and governmental differences that are quite natural.4/5

China is very active in Geneva and at the WTO in meetings and other discussions. China, like all members, should consider its long-term interests, and the benefits that a well- functioning multilateral trading system provide to economic growth and development. 5/5
