The major work of the #Zahabi #Sufi of the #Safavid period Najib Riza Tabrizi known as Zargar (d. Isfahan c. 1698) Nur al-hidaya on mystical ideas and lexicon #ShiiSufism 1/
Najib al-Din was born in #Isfahan in 1048/1638 and became a disciple of Muhammad Ali Mu’azzin Khurasani (d. 1672) arguably the first #Zahabi spiritual master - he had been author of Tuhfa-yi ‘Abbasi dedicated to Abbas II (d. 1666) on the identity of #Sufism and #Shiism 2/
A translation of the Tuhfa was done by Faghfoory around a decade or so ago #ShiiSufism 3/
This edition of Nur al-hidaya has recently been published by Intisharat-e Mawla in Tehran which after 1979 has been many #Zahabi works - an earlier edition was done in 1945 prepared by the #Zahabi press at Khanaqah-e Ahmadi on #Shiraz 4/
Like later #Zahabi masters e.g. Sayyid Qutbuddin Nayrizi in 18th C #Najib wrote works in verse such as Sab’ al-masani which defended #Sufism against the rising tide of #antiSufism especially following the death of Majlisi I (d. 1659) and Abbas II (d. 1666) #ShiiSufism 5/
#Najib also has an important #diwan of Persian poetry #ShiiSufism 6/
Ata Anzali’s work discusses the early #Zahabiya and the role of #Najib his master #Khurasani and his successor Ali-Naqi Istahbanati (d. 1714) in the rise and fall of organised #Sufism in the #Safavid period 7/
Anzali also questions the use of the term #Zahabi before the 18th C in this piece academia.edu/5229692/The_Em… 8/
I also discuss some of these figures and the late #Safavid and post Safavid period in this piece oxfordscholarship.com/mobile/view/10… 9/
