Today we launch the Free #ElHiblu3 campaign! 3 teenagers are accused of several crimes, incl. terrorism, for protesting the return of 108 migrants to inhumane conditions in #Libya. #Malta drop all charges! Resisting illegal #push-backs is not a crime!

Exactly one year ago, European authorities ordered the El Hiblu 1 merchant vessel to push 108 rescued people back to #Libya, a place where they had experienced imprisonment, torture, and rape. Collectively, the migrants resisted their return and eventually disembarked in #Malta.
During the protest, nobody was injured, and nothing was damaged. In public, the 108 migrants were described as ‘pirates’ and ‘terrorists’ but when the Maltese military stormed the vessel, they only met humans who had fled cruelty in #Libya and needed protection.
Upon disembarkation in Malta, three teenagers - 15, 16 and 19 years of age - were imprisoned for seven months. They still face severe charges that could lead to years in prison. One of them says: “We escaped tyrannical and inhumane treatments in Libya to find life in Malta”.
Passengers of the El Hiblu 1, sea rescuers, lawyers & human rights organisations in Malta & beyond have come together to call for the immediate dismissal of the trial. Instead of being prosecuted the #ElHiblu3 should be celebrated for preventing an illegal push-back to Libya.
