2/ In fact, #nationalsecuritylaw will affect all netizens since #China has a long history of regarding critical voices on social media as a threat to its national security. It has imposed the most restrictive cybersecurity rules & clamped down on the flow of information in China.
3/ Under the new law, the #secretpolice agency is just the first step for more China’s direct control. As Section 4 of the law reads “Central government can base on needs to set up institutions in HK to uphold #nationalsecurity.”
4/ This is a matter of time when China extends its Great Firewall and censorship apparatus to HK, and censors social media platforms like Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. It harms not only freedom of speech, but also free flow of information & all business interests relying on it.
5/ Therefore, I call upon all tech giants, include @Facebook, @Twitter, @Google, @YouTube to speak up and oppose the new evil law in order to defend the free flow of information.
