🆘Boat in danger in Malta SAR zone! A boat with ~33 people fleeing #Libya reached out to #AlarmPhone. The engine is not working & water is coming in. One person fainted. They are urgently asking for help. @Armed_Forces_MT do not delay rescue & bring them to safety in #Europe now!
The people in distress are in great danger, begging for rescue on the phone! They say they are drifting, water is entering the boat and several people have passed out due to the heat and lack of water. They've reported the presence of a helicopter near them. Do not delay rescue!
The people in distress say that a grey vessel came to them, brought water & took pictures. They crew had a uniform and spoke in English. They cannot identify the vessel, but we fear it might be the so-called Libyan Coastguards preparing another illegal pushback from #Malta SAR!
We lost contact to the boat in distress more than two hours ago and are deeply concerned about the well-being of the people on board. We call on the Maltese Armed Forces to live up to their duty and carry out a rescue operation and provide a port of safety in Europe.
We are happy to finally confirm that the 33 people in distress were rescued to #Malta. They were in urgent distress and we are glad the Armed Forces of Malta intervened. Thanks to those who called on the authorities to rescue! maltatoday.com.mt/news/national/…
