An extremely important thread on the spread of #COVID19 in #Damascus #Syria following lift of quarantine measures, emulating the #Lebanon example detailed by Dr @firassabiad

Al-Sharq al-Awsat's @ibrahimhamidi says 193 deaths were recorded yesterday, Friday, not all, from Covid but certainly many.

@omarsyrianok5 provides more details, says the burial measures are strict. Patients who die in hospital will be taken to the nearest cemetery to be buried there, regardless of family traditions. (bribery still an option to release the body)

Those who die at home, whether from Covid or otherwise, will be buried by their families at their cemetery of choice. However, it's straight into quarantine for them, no funeral ceremonies or gatherings allowed.

A photo attached to the thread, shows people crowding the #Damascus Funeral Office, backing up claims of 'unusual and unseasonal excess' of daily deaths.

The spread apparently cannot be controlled with the current measures, some people are getting infected without showing symptoms, hence becoming unwitting vectors and spreading the virus across their local communities.
