As the #COVID19 pandemic continues to devastate the lives and livelihoods of people across the country, this unprecedented crisis continues to devastate incarcerated people and their families the most. FWD.us/FreeAndSafe

Prisons and jails do not have adequate health care facilities to treat the serious complications that can accompany #coronavirus. We need massive economic relief for all of those affected, which has to include people impacted by our criminal justice system. #COVID19 #FreeAndSafe

Tomajae was released on bail only to struggle to find work amidst #COVID19 pandemic. Since his release on bail, Tomajae has been focused on finding employment. hickoryrecord.com/news/national/…

Recent lockdowns have shuttered many retail and restaurant jobs & made it more difficult for recently released individuals like Tomajae to obtain employment. To pass the time Tomajae cleans and helps baby-sit family members. He reminds himself to “keep your head up.” #FreeAndSafe

Stephen was forced to return his #CARESAct stimulus check of $1,200 after the Department of Corrections acted on IRS guidance to withhold the money. The checks are designed to provide direct assistance to American people and families. theappeal.org/prisoners-stim…

Stephen is just one of many incarcerated individuals having their stimulus checks returned due to IRS regulations preventing incarcerated individuals from receiving the stimulus.

Stephen commented how his family and friends help take care of him and if they aren’t able to work during the #coronavirus pandemic, he and other incarcerated people do not have the critical support they need.

Recently released people like Raoul are faced with inhibiting obstacles upon their release from prison during #COVID19. Raoul has been unable to apply for a job or open a bank account without a photo ID, which has been hard to obtain during the pandemic. theintercept.com/2020/07/05/cor…

State DMV offices have been closed until recently, and now that they’re open he is still waiting on necessary documents from a parole officer.

To survive, Raoul has had to do things that put his newfound freedom at risk, including working as a food delivery driver without a license just to make money. “I’ve just had to put myself into survival mode,” he said.
