There is a real need for ethnicity, race, power, privilege & oppression to be openly taught on counselling courses. Especially white privilege and what it actually means. Terminology is misunderstood & what gets reflected/played out is the privilege to deny or dismiss it exists.
We can't talk about 'working with' minority and marginalised communities without acknowledging the privleged position of the majority and dominant communities, which position themselves as normative/neutral.
We can't explore oppression and marginalisation without talking about the other end of systems of oppressions - inequalities that offer benefits, unearned privileges & clear pathways to success for the dominant communities.
