#Pune crossed a major milestone of 100000 citizens who have successfully recovered from #COVID19 infections. While on the one hand we are still trying to control infections, improve recovery rates and reduce mortality rate, we cannot ignore the importance of Post-COVID care (1/n)
Studies have shown that most #COVID19 recovered patients continue to exhibit unpleasant side-effects. An estimated 75% of patients who suffered severe forms of infection return back to hospitals complaining of chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, stress and anxiety. (2/n)
Residual effects of #COVID19 can vary from mild fatigue (taking weeks to recover) to severe symptoms that take several months to recover. Numerous patients have also reported permanent damage to their lungs & kidneys, impaired cardiac function, and mental health issues (3/n)
The virus is still new but researchers have estimated that that the sequelae may last for many years. The State Govt. needs to have a comprehensive plan in place that includes setting up of Post-Covid Care clinics & outlining SOPS for patients and physicians alike.. (4/n)
Today I have written to Hon. @CMOMaharashtra @OfficeofUT ji drawing his attention & requesting him to share plans & strategy ( if any ) outlined by the Govt. of Maharashtra for care and treatment of patients who are developing post-COVID sequelae. (5/n)
#Pune has already suffered from the delay in building #COVID19 Care Hospitals. Citizens have lost their lives that could have been saved with early intervention, hence, I have urged @OfficeofUT ji to expedite setting up Post-Covid Care centers at all hospitals across Pune (6/n)
