4. Here are some of the most critical problems w/ the #LosAngeles #VSAP #Voting system.
- It does not use #HandMarkedPaperBallots - considered the most secure option by #security experts.
- It counts #votes with #QR codes. This is considered so risky that Colorado has banned it

- The ballot goes under the printer after the voter casts it, so the paper ballot can be changed if the machine is hacked. This is a betrayal to voters w/ #Disabilities who rely on ballot-marking devices. They deserve to know that their votes will be counted accurately. #LAVotes

5. The #Voting system in #LosAngeles has not fulfilled its promise to be #OpenSource. Open source helps us know what's in our public tech. Sign a petition asking that these issues be addressed prior to certification. Petition closes 9/21 #SecurityFail

7. @KimZetter covered something almost no one else discussed - the chilling & suspicious track record of the vendor #Smartmatic. "The company, founded in Florida in 1999 by Venezuelan engineers/ (its partner) received $200,000 from / an investment arm of the Venezuelan govt."

8. #Smartmatic is the main vendor for the #LosAngeles #Voting system, even though they built the voting system in #Venezuela "amid allegations that he [Chavez] and his supporters rigged the election." Wouldn't it be good if we could see that source code?

9. @KimZetter continues, "In the Philippines/ [Smartmatic] was embroiled in further controversy in 2016/ Authorities /accused the company’s employees of altering a script on an election server without authorization as results were being transmitted during a national election."

This is the company that built the voting system that millions of voters in LosAngeles are going to use.
