Tutorial thread! 🌳
Sharing a very quick breakdown of how I'm making the vegetation for #AssassinsCreedValhalla. This is not much and I'm working on more detailed ones but I hope it'll help.
Can't wait to see your art!💚🌿

1. Sorry for the square and messy format, I planned it for my instagram at first. You can follow me if you want at @ imakeplantsforaliving

2. Now it's #SpeedTree time!

3. Using this baking technique is really the best imho for exaggerating the normal/AO maps and get satisfying result while mapped on planes.

4. Cluster time! The most tricky one, you must not be greedy to ensure optimization but not be shy either. You need enough cuts to bend and add noise on the planes and avoid flat planes at all cost (bad for the lighting)

5. It will look flat, soft and too stylized for a long time but trust me and don't rush adding leaves clusters, this is for the good of the silhouette :)

6. Now you can add support for your clusters

7. Finally it looks like a tree!

8. You can do this earlier but imho I prefer doing it when there is leaves on it (but it might be good for the overall size of the trunk and principal ramifications)

9. The most important and crucial part : iteration. Do not fear back and forth and reworking your tree. I always ask help of my beloved and talented colleague @DongluYu (and yes I'm a fanboy of her work)

10. Enjoy! I really wanted to focus more on the general workflow and not on the tools because you can swap almost any tool for the one you're the most comfortable with. I'll work on more detailed tutorials but in the meantime :

I suggest you to look into Jeremy Huxley's tutorial about vegetation, also the one from Peyton Varney @peyart13 about foliage tutorial and finally the more important one from Jared Sobotta @JaredSobotta about creating a stunning porfolio. Take care! 💚

Sorry for the messy format.. I thought every answer in the thread would stay in the right order, my bad! I guess I'm still a total noob at tweeting! 😭
