There’s an important story unfolding while u go about your lives, Texas. Extremists in the #txlege have convinced moderates that they have to pass permitless carry, a dangerous gun bill that will allow virtually anyone to carry a loaded gun in public. THREAD 1/

But what no one is saying is how data shows us permitless carry is a bad idea. It’s data, ya know, provided by professional ppl whose job it is to tell us what’s actually happening, not what we think we know from our ltd experience. 2/

IRL that means more Texans die of gun violence. Like this 15-yo-girl shot dead in Mesquite this weekend. A 15-yo is a baby. A child. I wish #txlege could think of the families left behind when stuff like this happens, but they don’t 3/ wfaa.com/article/news/c…

But instead the #txlege is so obsessed w scoring a “win” for gun extremists that they did an end-run around the process, creating a new cmte, bc they were nervous the one in charge doesn’t like permitless carry 4/

Ignoring #facts & #data that show permitless carry will put guns into thousands of dangerous hands #txlege 5/

Meanwhile the #txlege was caught up in no less than 2 scandals this w/e when a lawmaker - who voted FOR permitless carry, which will allow ppl w multiple DUI charges to carry a loaded gun in public, was arrested for....DUI 6/

And then a lobbyist was accused of giving a date-rape drug to a Capitol staffer. And while unrelated to permitless carry, it is entirely related to the toxic & misogynist culture free-flowing at the #txlege 7/

So it just bears observing that while law enforcement, DV groups, faith leaders & WOMEN roundly oppose permitless carry, the good ol’ boys at the #txlege will likely find a way to jam their gun-nutty nonsense through the process 8/

But we’ve all seen this movie before, y’all. And mark my words the women & families of Texas will be there picking up the pieces when another shooting devastates their cmty bc the Best Little Whorehouse in TX needed a dance number. #txlege 9/

I hope the #txlege members who decide to cave on this enjoy all the ease of primary fights & none of the tragedy & trauma & lockdowns & memory that everyone else here has to cope with. 10/

In the meantime, if you’re so inclined to protect everyday Texans & law enforcement from the old-as-time #txlege culture of misogyny & power hoarding at the expense of everyone else, please do, y’all.
