Scriptures of Sanatan Hindu Dharma:-
As Sanatan Hindu Dharma is based on philosophy of "एकं सत् विप्राः बहुधा वदन्ति।" i.e. Truth is one and explained in many ways. Also we have system of "बहुऋषिमतम्" meaning many scholars have many views.
1/

So we have large numbers of Dharmic Sahitya or scriptures.
Scriptures of Sanatan Hindu Dharma can be broadly classified into four groups which are 'श्रुती'(Shruti),'स्मृती'(Smriti), 'पुराण'(Puaranas) and 'शास्त्र'(Shastras). That's why before beginning of every Puja in Sankalp
2/

we say 'श्रुतीस्मृतीपुराणोक्त शास्त्रोक्त फल प्राप्त्यर्थं।' which means 'may we get the फल i.e. result as prescribed by Shruti,Smriti,Puran and Shahstra.'
3/

• श्रुती(Shrutis):-
The first scripture of Hindu Dharma is श्रुती(Shruti). The word 'श्रुती' comes from Sanskrit dhatu 'श्रुतम्' means 'to listen'. These scriptures are 'listened or explored' by our ancient sages and they have arranged it in specific manner. These Shrutis are
4/

what we call as 'Vedas'. The word 'वेद' a sanskrit word comes from dhatu 'विद्' meaning 'to know.'
In ancient times only one Veda was there. Our great Rishi 'Krishna Dwaipayan Vyas or Ved Vyas' classified Vedas in four different groups namely
5/

ऋग्वेद(Rigveda),यजुर्वेद(Yajurveda),सामवेद(Samveda),अथर्ववेद(Atharvaveda).' Again each Veda has four subgroups namely 'संहिता(Samhita),ब्राह्मणम्(Brahman),आरण्यकम्(Aaranyaka) and उपनिषद(Upnishad).'
These four vedas have their 'उपवेद'(Upved) or SubVed.The Rigveda has 'आयुर्वेद'
6/

(Aayurveda),Yajurveda has 'धनुर्वेद'(Dhanurved),Samveda has 'गान्धर्ववेद'(Gandharvaved) and Atharvaveda has 'अर्थशास्त्र'(Arthshastra) as their respective Upveda. This is the classification of Shrutis.
7/

• स्मृती(Smritis):-
The word 'स्मृती' comes from 'स्मृ' dhatu which means 'to remember'. These smrits are those scriptures which are written by our Great Sages according to their 'Smruti or चेतना(Power of mind)'.
As we have many Great Sages in the Hindu Dharma who have guided
8/

the mankind to its right path, we have number of 'Smritis'.
Out of which The prominent Smirits are 'Angirasa Smriti,Vyasa Smriti,Apastamba Smriti,Daksha Smriti,Vishnu Smriti,Yagyavalkya Smriti,Likhita Smriti,Samvarta Smriti,Shankha Smriti,Brihaspati Smriti,Atri Smriti,
9/

Katyayna Smriti,Parashara Smriti,Manu Smriti,Aushanasa Smriti,Harita Smriti,Gautama Smriti,Yama Smriti'.
•पुराण(Puranas):-
Then we have 'Puranas' in our Dharma. The word 'पुराण' means which is 'ancient or old'.Maharshi Ved Vyas has written 18 different types of Puranas which
10/

which have histories of our Hindu Dharma. The names of 18 Puranas are - Agni Purana,Bhagavata Purana,Bhavishya Purana,Brahmanda Purana,Brahmavaivarta Purana,Garuda Purana,Kurma Purana,Linga Purana,Markendya Purana,Matsya Purana,Narada Purana,Padma Purana,Shiva Purana,
11/

Skanda Purana,Vamana Purana,Varaha Purana,Vayu Purana,Vishnu Purana.
We have subgroup of Purana as इतिहास (History) where we have महाभारत (Mahabharat)and रामायण (Ramayan)
•शास्त्र(Shastras):-
After Puaranas we have 'Shashtras' which is can be called as 'Schools of thoughts.'
12/

We have six different types of Shastras namely 'Sankhya Shastra, Yog Shastra, Nyaya Shastra, Vaisheshik Shastra, Purvamimamsa Shastra and Uttarmimamsa Shastra'.
13/

This was simple classification of the Scriptures of Hindu Dharma. In upcoming threads we will go further deep into knowledge of these scriptures.
