A Chinese ink and brush painting thread on the birds of the Indian Subcontinent... All the inkwork is by yours truly of course!
1. Sarus cranes, the tallest of the flying birds a symbol of marital fidelity

Chalat musafir moh Liya re pinjre wali muniya!..... More enchanting( mohifying) when free !
2. Red Avadavat or the Red Munia

My favouritest of the 'common birds' from the subcontinent , endearing chatterboxes😊
3. Red -whiskered Bulbul

Always a delight to spot these flashes of yellow in the green tree foliage
4. Black- naped Oriole

The metronome birdie..... The 'bambai ka bird'( named the official bird of Mumbai city in 2011 )

5. Coppersmith Barbet this one is a scroll painting so click on pic to see the whole picture 🤷‍♀️ #indiaves #birdpainting #birding

I prefer pink on birds not myself

And these fellows are gorgeous in pink!

6. Rosy starling #Indiaves #birdpainting #birding

Going by the first pic on this thread which depicts the mating dance of the Sarus, you may be forgiven for mistaking this to be a mating pair too (if you are not a birder i.e), but actually these are two morphs of the male of the species
7. Indian paradise flycatcher #indiaves

A solitary 'sundara' for a change
8. Rufous-bellied Niltava

Now for some breeding finery!

9.Intermediate Egret

A lil feathered family for this Tuesday morning....I painted the painted ones!

10. Painted storks #painting #naturepainting #birding #indiaves

Companion piece to the above , featuring a bird known for its peculiar nesting behaviour ,that is the state bird of my Home state as well of the state I am currently residing in

11. Great Hornbill

The smallest of the cranes ,A bird named for its delicate appearance, yet one that undertakes one of the toughest migrations in the world crossing the Himalayas.
12. Demoiselle Crane #Birdpainting #inkandbrushpainting #birding #IndiAves

After a bird named by Royalty...its Common cousin 😊

13. Common crane

And one of the most vulnerable and least 'known' of them all
14. Black- necked Crane
This has been painted on unsized rice paper in the traditional 'xieyi' style , which is supposed to catch the spirit of the subject (well that is all you get time for anyways! 😬) #indiaves

Now for a bird that is not just great in the looks department but at vocalizations too! A great mimic

15. Greater Racquet-tailed Drongo

Painted here with the Indian purple emperor butterfly #Painting #birdpainting #butterfly #indiaves #naturepainting

Finally it has rained in the cloud forests of this part of the country after a prolonged summer spell!..One of the denizen of these forests, with an orchid blossom from the region 😊

16.Silver-eared Mesia #birding #birdpainting #botanicalart #orchids #IndiAves

Only four new bird species have been discovered in India since Independence, this here is one of them(in 2006) the latest being 'Zoothera salimalii'

17. Bugun Liocichla

On an aside one of the coolest name ever for a person that I have heard? Mr Indiglo Bugun( Tribe Chieftain)

From the exotic to our supposed commonplace feathered friends. It is he ubiquitous sparrow species here.....

18. Eurasian Tree sparrows #indiaves #birdpainting #birding #naturepainting

A 'fairy' it is 😊....tiny and magical , yet a bold lil fellow( atleast from this single encounter I had with this species)

19. Yellow-bellied fantail #indiaves #birdpainting #birding #orchids
