The question I get asked most about being in #Shanghai centralized #quarantine is what am I being fed (delivery is allowed but no hot food and defo no bubble tea). I had a choice between Chinese and western. The former is a safer bet. Here’s what I’ve been eating: #china [thread]
#China #quarantine #meal Day 1 lunch: it was cold by the time we got it because it took a good 6 hrs from landing, testing, immigration before I got to the assigned quarantine hotel. This is ham and veg fried noodles (congealed sadly), bacon, stir fried cabbage and scrambled eggs
I brought snacks but the airport sprayed so much disinfectant on the luggage that it soaked through to my stuff. My colleague asked if the food is still safe to eat. My answer is … depends how desperate I get in the next 2 wks
#china #quarantine #meal Day 1 Dinner: fishball soup , roast potatoes (a pleasant surprise), stir-fried celery, soy chicken and rice
#china #quarantine #meal Day 2 Breakfast: ☝️ boiled egg, ☝️ steamed yam, two spring rolls, malt bun, preserved radish and yogurt (think I’m gonna like breakfast)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 2 Lunch: stewed turnip, ☝️ chicken drumette, stir fried veg, Sichuan boiled beef (very mild 🌶), rice and mushroom soup
#china #quarantine #meal Day 2 Dinner: braised chicken feet in black bean sauce, stewed winter melon, egg drop soup, bacon stir-fried veg, vegetarian chicken (didn’t taste the last two) + bottled water
This stool is where my meals and packages are delivered so we minimize contact with the staff (the stools aren’t dirty. Think it’s from the disinfectant. I’ve counted 4+ rounds a day)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 3 Breakfast: pork and century egg congee (yum), ☝️ boiled egg, spring onion bun, sweet steamed cake, preserved radish, and yogurt
#china #quarantine #meal Day 3 lunch: egg & tomato soup, veg, beef and green pepper, chicken with no particular taste, sliced potato and mince pork, and a clementine (fruit, if we get it, seems to come with lunch only)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 3 Dinner: winter melon soup, stir fried cabbage with chili, egg and onion, braised pork belly (good even when cold), and quite a meaty fish
#china #quarantine #meal Day 4 breakfast: steamed bun (no filling), ☝️ steamed yam, ☝️ boiled 🥚 ☝️ vegetable and beancurd bun (can never go wrong with these), yogurt plus a NEW type of pickle. Mini 🥒
#china #quarantine #meal Day 4 Lunch: fish, egg and shrimp, stir fried zucchini, bean sprouts, corn and egg drop soup (corn was mushy), and bottled water. (No fruit today 😢)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 4 Dinner: chicken feet in black bean sauce (my fave), seaweed and egg soup, stir fried veg, mapo tofu (has an odd taste), fish ball and pig skin in curry sauce (a canto favorite but the fish balls here rarely have the right level of chewiness)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 5 Breakfast: congee with corn meal, preserved radish, ☝️ boiled egg, black sesame paste bun, fried dough 油条 (just tasted like oil) and yogurt
#china #quarantine #meal Day 5 Lunch: bitter melon soup (Twas quite bitter), seaweed, soy chicken, stir fried veg, rice and fried glutinous something and a clementine (yay!)
#china #quarantine #meal Day 5 Dinner: stewed winter melon, egg and tomato, Chinese sausage with celery, fried little fish and carrot soup plus bottled water
#china #quarantine #meal Day 6 Breakfast: spicy fatty pork bun (not yum), ☝️ boiled egg, half a boiled corn (of the mushy variety), sweet steamed cake, preserved radish, and yogurt
#china #quarantine #meal Day 6 Lunch: Lunch: tofu and cilantro soup, taro, mushroom and pork, zucchini with dried shrimp, steamed fish with a smidgen of black dace sauce plus bottled water
