Ooh, it's the 213th birthday of #EdgarAllenPoe. Which means it's a great time to share these Poe-inspired drawings I did a few years back. I read a Poe story a night, and did an #illustration the next day.

First up: "The Tell-Tale Heart"

1/

Here's an #illustration of my favorite #EdgarAllanPoe short story, "The Cask of Amontillado"

2/

The #illustration I did for #EdgarAllenPoe's "The Masque of the Red Death" was probably my favorite of the series.

3/

Some of the #EdgarAllenPoe #illustrations I did were entirely digital. Others, like this one for "Metzengerstein," were mixed media.

4/

I limited myself to 3 hours when I did each #EdgarAllenPoe #illustration. The time limit helped me not second guess myself and forced me to work quick and dirty. I love the energy in this #drawing for "A Tale of the Ragged Mountains."

When in doubt, use yourself as a model, which I did for this #illustration of #EdgarAllenPoe's "The Premature Burial."

6/

And when you can't use yourself as a model, because you need to draw a cat, use an actual cat — in this case, my cat Grayson, who modeled for this #illustration of #EdgarAllenPoe's "The Black Cat."

7/

I think this was my second favorite #illustration in my #EdgarAllenPoe series: "Ms. in a Bottle." I liked how the water turned out.

8/

The best part of doing my #EdgarAllenPoe #illustration series was finding that one defining image in each story that I could #Illustrate. It also helped me keep every #drawing simple, like this one for "The Oblong Box."

9/

I didn't get a chance to do an #illustration for all of #EdgarAllenPoe's short stories, but "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" made the cut.

Yes, folks, I'm paid to be funny. Doesn't mean that I am.

10/

Fun fact about me: When I was a kid and read #EdgarAllenPoe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" for the first time, I thought the Toledo he kept mentioning in the story was the one in Ohio.

Go Mud Hens! #illustration

11/

My last #EdgarAllenPoe #illustration: "The Fall of the House of Usher."

Someday, when I get more time, I'd like to do more personal projects like this.

Or, if any #publisher or #artdirector wants someone to do #illustrations for their horror books ...
