Delighted to share this systematic review and meta-analysis on the acute effects of interrupting prolonged sitting ๐Ÿช‘ with standing and light-intensity walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธon biomarkers of cardiometabolic health

Open Access @SportsMedicineJ: link.springer.com/article/10.100โ€ฆ

๐Ÿ“ The meta-analytical component of this review found both standing and walking breaks significantly โฌ‡๏ธ postprandial glucose metabolism

๐Ÿ“ However, walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ elicited a significantly greater attenuation in postprandial glucose compared to prolonged sitting and standing breaks

๐Ÿ“Light-intensity walking ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ breaks were also shown to significantly improve postprandial insulin compared to prolonged sitting and standing breaks

๐Ÿ“But intermittent bouts of standing showed no significant effect on postprandial insulin compared to prolonged sitting ๐Ÿช‘

๐Ÿ“ These findings suggest that standing breaks have a small beneficial effect compared to prolonged sitting on glucose metabolism, but that walking breaks represent a superior intervention

Many thanks to my excellent co-authors @mph8, @CKLangley95, Prof. Alan Donnelly and @DrBPCarson!
