Delighted to share this systematic review and meta-analysis on the acute effects of interrupting prolonged sitting ๐ช with standing and light-intensity walking ๐ถ๐ผโโ๏ธon biomarkers of cardiometabolic health
Open Access @SportsMedicineJ: link.springer.com/article/10.100โฆ
๐ The meta-analytical component of this review found both standing and walking breaks significantly โฌ๏ธ postprandial glucose metabolism
๐ However, walking ๐ถ๐ผโโ๏ธ elicited a significantly greater attenuation in postprandial glucose compared to prolonged sitting and standing breaks
๐Light-intensity walking ๐ถ๐ผโโ๏ธ breaks were also shown to significantly improve postprandial insulin compared to prolonged sitting and standing breaks
๐But intermittent bouts of standing showed no significant effect on postprandial insulin compared to prolonged sitting ๐ช
๐ These findings suggest that standing breaks have a small beneficial effect compared to prolonged sitting on glucose metabolism, but that walking breaks represent a superior intervention
