Universal healthcare is a necessary, moral and fiscally responsible solution to our country's healthcare crisis.

So why don't we have #MedicareForAll? And why is there so much misinformation spread about it?

Let's bust some #M4A myths:
🧵⬇️

Health insurance is not the same as healthcare.

People would move from their restrictive insurance plans and upgrade to #MedicareForAll

No more private insurance with varying degrees of coverage, restrictive networks, dealing with insurance bureaucracy or medical bills.
⬇️

Universal healthcare with #MedicareForAll would be government-funded, not government-run.

Government funding would go directly to paying for your healthcare— eliminating your co-pays and premiums, instead of going towards insurance industry subsidies.
⬇️

#MedicareForAll is not Medicare *comma* for all.

#M4A is high-quality universal health, dental, vision, hearing, reproductive, long-term and mental health care guaranteed, for all — with no networks, premiums, deductibles or co-pays and a $200 yearly cap on prescriptions.
⬇️

Under #MedicareForAll you pick your doctors and hospitals.

Our current system is set up where your health insurance company or employer chooses your services, what's covered, and decides which doctors and hospitals you can see.

Currently, they have choices, you don't.
⬇️

#MedicareForAll would create an estimated 2.3 million new jobs. That number grows to an estimated 17 million if you add the long term care jobs which would be created with long term care being included in #M4A
⬇️

#MedicareForAll eliminates a small business' financial burden of providing healthcare for their employees.

In 2021, small businesses contributed, on average, $6,485 for individual coverage and $13,737 for family coverage, per employee.

#M4A boosts small businesses.
⬇️

Many people wait for weeks or months for appointments now.

#MedicareForAll would save doctors an average of 9 hours per week by eliminating the administrative tasks and red tape associated with insurance companies, freeing them up to see more patients.
⬇️

"But how will we pay for it?"

#MedicareForAll would save $450 billion a year and cost $600 billion less than the Public Option.

#M4A is fiscally responsible.

If cost was truly a concern for Congress, they'd pass Medicare For All.
⬇️

As of January 2022, 55% of all Americans support universal healthcare while only 21% oppose. (YouGov)

#MedicareForAll is necessary and popular.
⬇️

The U.S. ranks dead last in access to care, administrative efficiency, equity and healthcare outcomes.

We are the only major country not to implement universal healthcare.

It's not that we can't figure it out— we actively choose not to.
⬇️

In 2021, insurance, pharma and healthcare lobbyists spent $828.5 million buying the policies of members of Congress that would make them the most money, and pushing out misinformation to the public to justify it.

A lobbyist-owned Congress will never pass #MedicareForAll
⬇️

"Healthcare is a human right."

We can't just say those words, we need to pass #MedicareForAll — the only policy that makes it a reality and lowers the barriers for everyone to have guaranteed healthcare without being driven into debt to use it.
⬇️

Universal healthcare with #MedicareForAll would save lives, save money, create jobs, help small businesses and boost local economies.

#M4A is the healthcare policy that prioritizes our health and financial prosperity over insurance industry profits.
⬇️

The Venn diagram of members of Congress opposing #MedicareForAll and taking money from insurance lobbyists looks like a single ⭕️

I'm rejecting corporate lobbyist 💰 and fighting for #M4A.
