Today @rashtrapatibhvn laid foundation of a war memorial at Alaboi Battle site in #Assam .But how many of us really know that 10,000 brave Ahom soldiers had sacrificed their lives in this battle? Not yr fault, existing education system gets the credit here! ;))

2/11:

Like other great Kingdoms of #Bharat in that era, the great Ahom Kingdom had also come under several attacks, mostly by the Mughals. But the resistance from the brave Ahoms & mother nature’s blessings had always stood in between the Mughals & their victory.

3/11:

The great Ahom Kingdom had many brave warriors who were known for their unmatched valor. But today the name “Lachit Borphukan” resonates across #Assam with utmost love & respect. To know how brave & skillful he was as a warrior, one has to read abt the Battle of Saraighat.

4/11:

The Battle of Saraighat was a naval battle fought in 1671 between the Mughal Empire and the Ahom Kingdom on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat, now in Guwahati, Assam, India.Although weaker, the Ahom Army defeated the Mughal Army by brilliant uses of the terrain,

5/11:

clever diplomatic negotiations to buy time, guerrilla tactics, psychological warfare, military intelligence and by exploiting the sole weakness of the Mughal forces—its navy.

6/11:

Upon becoming king Chakradwaj Singha set about in reforming the Ahom army, making alliances with other kingdoms in the region and constructing new forts in order to prepare for another war with the Mughals. The man he chose to lead his new army would be “Lachit Borphukan”.

7/11:

Aurangazeb had sent a massive army of 30,000 infantry and 18,000 cavalry to conquer Guhawati.

While, great Lachit prepared a system of mud embankments which would force the Mughals to rely on their weakest asset- the navy.

8/11:

The Mughals launched a massive naval attack on the Ahom forces at Saraighat. The attack was led by admiral Munnawar Khan.

In the midst of the battle, Lachit had fallen seriously ill & this was a major setback to the Ahom Forces.

9/11:

Seeking to rally his wavering troops, Lachit got on a boat despite his condition. He charged towards the Mughals like a lion & declared that he would rather perish while performing his duty instead of running away. This had charged up the Ahom Forces for the battle.

10/11:

War tactics of Lachit Borphukan, his unmatched valor & small-sized boats of the Ahom forces proved decisive in close-quarter engagements as the bigger Mughal boats could not manoeuvre quickly enough with their cannons.

The Mughals thus lost the battle of Saraighat.

11/11:

Great Lachit Borphukan would pass away from natural causes in 1672, a year after the battle of Saraighat.

My heartfelt tribute to the great son of #Bharat & #Assam & a fierce warrior…🙏🏻
