was arbitrarily detained on the night of 4 to 5 January 2022 by three police officers in civilian clothes for his participation in a peaceful protest in support of peaceful protesters in the town of Zhanaozen.

At the rally, peaceful protesters demanded the complete resignation of the current government due to a loss of confidence in it. On the night of 4 to 5 January 2022, authorities dispersed peaceful protesters with stun grenades.

Law enforcement officers also beat people with batons. One of the batons hit the legs of a fleeing Amangeldy and the activist fell to the ground.

Amangeldy was detained at the police department for about 16 hours without food.

On the evening of 5 January, he had a trial on a politically motivated administrative case for his participation in a peaceful protest on 25 December 2021, which sentenced him to 20 days of administrative detention.
