In the prospectus of University college #Mangalore it is clearly mentioned that "Students who wish to wear #Hijab with uniform are allowed to wear, as matching to colour of uniform". Which is followed by students from several decades. 1/n

On March 15, Karnataka High Court ordered to follow uniformity as per govt orders and CDC rules. #Hijab wearing Students of University College Mangalore were allowed to write their degree semester exams till May 7, as they were allowed earlier. 2/n

Suddenly, Principal Anasuya Shetty on May-16 drops a message in the Whatsapp group that from 17-05-2022 offline classes will be started and no #Hijab will be allowed inside the classroom. The next day officially a circular is passed banning #Hijab inside the classroom. 3/n

When #Hijab wearing students questioned the Principal that High Court order is only confined to Pre-University colleges, not degree colleges. She asks them to give it in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor.

Students wrote letter to allow them wearing Hijab on 18th May. 4/n

After waiting for a long period vice-chancellor asked us to bring a clarification letter from DC. We went to meet DC amid heavy rain, but he was out of station" #Hijabi girl said.

Finally, we discussed the issue with DC and he asked for some time to solve it. 5/n

#ABVP leader Yathish Kumar provokes every Hindu students in the Whatsapp group as quoted "Everyone should present in front of RK Bhavan" and other students shares #saffronflag & #ABVP flag stickers saying Jai.

Moreover, he asked girl students to bring saffron shawl. 6/n

On 26 May, As it was pre-planned #ABVP mobilised students to boycott classes and protest against #Hijab.

Moreover, they raised slogans against University college union President Vinyas for not supporting them and showing a soft corner towards Hijab. 7/n

I had asked #ABVP students not to protest on #Hijab issue, but they didn't listen to me and dragged the issue on street, Hence I am resigning from the post: Mangalore University Student Union President & ABVP Leader Vinyas.

Moreover, Vinyas was not participated in protest. 8/n

"They taunted, commented & captured our videos but still we didn't react anything, we went legally to solve this issue internally and were waiting for DC to intervene and resolve it. #ABVP added fuel to the issue and they are wholly responsible for it." #Hijabi student said. 9/n

Since 15 days we were not allowed in class, They're throwing us out of class, on-campus & today they threw us out of the library & are closing doors on us, didn't even allow us to stand there aren't we also citizens?. 10/n

Karnataka BJP ex-minister @ikseshwarappa warns Muslim students that "If you want to stay in India then have to follow the Karnataka High court #Hijab verdict, which prohibits wearing of Hijab.

(Note: Eeshwarappa is famous for statements to stir controversy & communalize) 11/n

On 27 May, Vice-Chancellor #Yadapadithaya addressing the mediapersons said that #Hijab will not be allowed in the library and canteen as well. Students will, after entering the college premises have to remove the headscarf in the restroom meant for them. 12/n

#Mangalore University Student Coordination Committee Chairman @riyaz_journlst assured his support to #Hijab-wearing students amidst Press Conference.

The student's coordination committee gave a 2-day deadline to solve the issue. 16/n

#ABVP Members placed #Savarkar & #BharathMatadi pictures on the front board in class on June 6. When some students opposed calling him a traitor & complaint to the principal to remove it, she argued and asked students to take their words 'Traitor Savarkar' back.
