1/7 #OSINT geolocation of drone strike that killed Al Qaeda leader Al Zawahiri in #Kabul, a #thread:

2 images posted shortly after the incident provide different perspectives, allowing us to get a strong idea of the area (Photo 1; Photo 2).

Images geolocated to Sherpur PD10:

2/7 Pinpointing the house is difficult. The only close up photos are all from the same angle, with limited clues besides the shape and facade of the building, and the fact there is no building behind it.

3/7 @obretix suggested a location (A, in last image in thread) which fits many of the parameters, but appears to possibly be too far East from Photo 2 perspective - it would be behind the red squared building.

4/7 Also, off nadir sat images from Google Earth show a facade with pillars either side of the windows, which we do not see in the close up photos.

5/7 Another potential location (B), slightly further West is a good match. This appears to have a facade more consistent with the close up photos, and the balcony would be set back from the road, providing more security.

6/7 Historic user generated content on Google Earth provides a view from Sher Ali Khan Road to the West. In the image, you can see the green glass barriers of the building seen in the close ups of building hit by the drone strike.

7/7 Taking all this into account, we believe location B is the site of the Al Zawahiri drone strike.

Our workings…

Turns out, @obretix beat us to the punch…
