What is $ATOM?
$ATOM is the governance token of @cosmos, a Layer 0 blockchain that allows other blockchains to build on it. They are built using the Cosmos SDK, which allows developers to quickly spin up PoS blockchains for their needs.
The Cosmos SDK allows apps to be their own specialized chain - an appchain! There can be different chains that focus on NFTs, financial products, liquid staking and more!
This saves users from crazy high gas fees during hyped events such as the @OthersideMeta mint.
In addition, the Cosmos SDK has a revolutionary IBC module which allows blockchains to talk to one another without involving any bridges!
Just like how we are able to talk to people on the internet thanks to TCP/IP, IBC is an interoperability protocol that allows different blockchains to communicate with each other seamlessly and without needing to trust any third parties!
Let's say I want to borrow money on Chain A, but I have no assets there. But I do have NFT assets on Chain B.
I could get Chain A to tell Chain B to send my NFT over. I can then collateralize and borrow against it, all on Chain A.
Now imagine the endless permutations this can achieve with all the chains in the world without compromising a great user experience!
Another new feature that creates value for $ATOM is called Interchain Security (ICS).
ICS helps accrue value back to $ATOM.
Imagine a start-up that is unable to afford their own security. Instead, the company can opt for security managed by an MNC and in turn only pay a fraction of fees as it is shared among the other tenants.
It's what #IBC does for smaller chains that are just starting out.
Their tokenomics revamp at @CosmoverseHQ will make $ATOM less inflationary, increase its value and help to future-proof the Cosmos ecosystem.
This will be amazing for the price of $ATOM!
