In #Virgo, we have the representation of the harvest, of the moment of separating the wheat from the chaff.

We can be content to analyze the various differences and components. We can be efficient, precise, and attentive to process.

In #Virgo, we are in preparation mode for the coldness to come.

In #Libra, we have to be ready, starting with knowing what is the actual balance of what's to be preserved & divided.

#Libra has the distinction, from ALL other signs, of being the sign that's denoted by an inanimate object: a scale.

The glyph for #Libra, bit.ly/UFGG8C, is said to represent the actual yoke of an ox, as it pulls a till, for instance.

Why are these symbols relevant for the 7th sign of the Zodiac? #Libra

It's significant cuz #Libra represents the moment when "nature" goes beyond its course to become "supernatural."

#Libra represents the moment of #rationality, of ratio. The scales present a weighing. The yoke is organizing nature to work.

Although symbolized by inanimate signs, #Libra represents the most "human" of signs and moments, when intellect can triumph.

And intellect isn't just about intelligence. It's about how one has to consider things & find things in right proportion. #Libra

This is very different from the mistaken notion that #Libras have to be balanced or are balanced. Balanced ≠ #ratio.

Rationality is a focus on seeking how one thing complements or works in tandem with another. #Libra

In human relations, this explains an interest that #Librans may have in two key areas: interpersonal relationships & justice.

Sociability requires more than just feeling we discover in #Libra. We find kinship (Venus) w/ others thru ideas or concepts.

In the external world, ratio also explains how we look at beauty.

Beauty is often about proportion, like the golden mean: bit.ly/UpMOyI

This is also how Libra's patron, #Venus, expresses her interest in beauty, more in art & culture rather than sensuality.

More often than not, a #Libra is going to be a person of culture and exquisite taste.

#Libra represents a very critical stage in human development of "playing with others,"or to civilize the savage in us.

This is interestingly why we call this season the "fall." It's not really about the falling leaves #Libra #Astrology

The Sun approaches its strength in #Aries, representing the ascendancy of the ego to act on its might for its own behalf.

In astrology, we call this the exaltation of the #Sun. This ties in with the myth of resurrected Christ, after he's "slain"...

…after the full moon in #Libra in March or April.

The full moon in #Libra at Passover represents a sacrifice that the Sun must temporarily make.

Now, once the Sun is in #Libra, the Sun must sacrifice its ego rule as to share its power, it must fall so a "we" can rise.

Or put differently, #Libra can represent a more equal ratio of distribution of power as suggested by the Sun "falling."

The Sun is also falling because #Libra is the equinox point, of equal day & night, before we have shorter days & longer nights.

So #Libra taps foundationally into our culture with these memes and ideas.

For instance, ever wonder why we use lbs. in English for pounds? Well, lb. is short for #libra (or the scales).

Libra also relates to "libri" or book in Latin. Books are considered weighty things that cause us to ponder & think deeply.

I have known several Libras who seem to approach having orgasms while in large #Libra(ries)--male or female.

So like #Virgo, #Libra wants to sift thru ideas (as found in books, etc). But they want to find the right ratio for meaning.

This is where #Libras get into trouble. They can spend an exorbitant amount of time figuring out the right ratio for something.

This is because #Libra may consider a multitude of factors & issues that you might not be thinking about, if you're not #Libra.

For instance, a #Libra wants to go for the garlicky dish, but resists cuz they know they will be in close quarters w/ you later.

So, the next 15 minutes, at a restaurant could be about the #Libra making up his/her mind cuz s/he's weighing various factors.

The cure for this is to use a little #Aries. Push them (Gently!) toward one choice & they'll push back.

It is unkind to let a #Libra flail for too long. #LeaveNoLibraBehind

In fact, this reminds me of an old post I have on #Libra about some of their quirks: bit.ly/oVVF4Q #Libra

By gender, I do not think cultural expectations are fairly matched. #Libra women definitely get more of an edge, I think.

1st, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have a thing for #Libra women. My mama was 1 & I find them preternaturally beautiful.

And here's the thing: I've never met a #Libra woman who wasn't some kind of beautiful and some kind of brilliant.

Mythically, I associate #Libra women w/ the archetype of Lillith before she got demonized by patriarchy: bit.ly/XjGw

As some of you might know, acc. to myth, #Lillith was the 1st woman, before Eve, who demanded full equality w/ Adam. She got booted.

So a #Libra woman KNOWS in her celestial DNA that she's on par w/ her partner, especially if he's a man.

And here's the short list of women who attest to it: Barbara Walters, Melissa Harris-Perry...

...Eleanor Roosevelt, Anne Rice, bell hooks, Margaret Thatcher

I also got to shout out my Buffalo homegrrl and #Libra--Ani DiFranco

So #Libra women have the charm, will, grace, beauty and intelligence to ferret out the right #ratios to bring light & change.

It seems easier in our culture to accept the feminine charms along with the more ponderous or indecisive aspects in women.

It's not the same w/ #Libra men, unfortunately

Essentially, cuz the Sun, a male archetype,is supposed to be clear & decisive, it's not as attractive to see indecisive men.

Don't forget, when the Sun is in Libra, it's considered in Fall and hence the possible name for the season.

Once, I was talking w/ an 8-month pregnant #Taurus woman in late August about her epic "hate" of #Libra men & their "indecisiveness." *chortle*

Take note of everything I just said there.

Here's a woman who's pregnant w/ a boy (she knows) & about to have what will be, one day, a #Libra man. LOL!

Anyway, I had to challenge her about her own patriarchy. Of course, it does depend on what he can't make up his mind about.

However,we should have learned from Decider Dubya that decision-making should be more nuanced. (Since he has a moon in #Libra.)

Nonetheless, when a #Libra man has made up his mind, especially on the big things, he brings down Empires. I'm not kidding.

There are more generals are born under the sign of #Libra than any other sign, and I believe it. They must think rationally!

#Libra men are known to stand up for justice & challenge the status quo, like #Gandhi, Desmond Tutu, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson

Must give props & love to Oscar Wilde who did hard time for both justice and standing up for his right to love the same sex.

Of course, it's also true, because of our homophobia, there's some suspicions about #Libra men.

"Oh, you're too good looking, smart, cultured, well-read, charming and witty to be straight!" o_O

And they often can be good looking men in unexpected ways like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Guy Pearce, Christopher Reeve, etc.

I guess people consider #Libra Snoop Dogg attractive or Snoop Lion too. Same for Lil Wayne.

Let's talk about #Libra wit, since they practically invented it. (Really. Remember: Oscar Wilde is a #Libra.)

This is where I personally run into issues w/ Libras, especially the men.

I've come to believe that when you talk to a #Libra, you HAVE to pay attention cuz there are always two tracks running.

One track seems like the conversation, but there's another track running that is commentary on the conversation. #Libra

Often #Libras are the master of sotte voce or undervoice. They might make some quip so quick about you that you'll miss it.

They live for quips. Like take #Libra Eminem. You don't want to do the "dozens" with that dude. Ever.

And if you're talking to them, they will cast shade & sidebar commentary, esp. if they disagree w/ you, & you might not catch it.

Remember, I grew up "under" #Libra folk, so I guess my ears are trained to always catch them.

Years ago, I almost got in a fight w/ a notable #Libra poet who would make sotte voce commentary abt the ppl around him.

It was like 7 of us & we were all talking. He would have something snide to say abt ppl, but no one seemed to hear him.

I'm a son of Mars, who had to be civilized by #Libras, so I just blurted out, "What did you say?!" He just smiled.

But everyone else was like, "What did he say? He said something?" I just nodded at him like "I see your ass." LOL!

I believe #Libras do that because they don't want to be obvious in their offense, but they can't stand stupidity or low class.

So the "polite" way is to make commentary that has to be read closely or in a more nuanced way. #Libras are masters at this.

You could get insulted by a #Libra and it may take you weeks to realize that this has happened.

They know how to make the right mixture of sweet propriety w/ a touch of spice in a knuckle-sandwich

This is why I've named #Libra as the "Dons" of something I call the #ZodiacMafia:

The #ZodiacMafia are 3 signs you never see coming, cuz you don't expect their cunning in revenge. #Capricorn & Pisces are two more.

#Libra, when felt wronged, will work extra hard to right their side of the ratio, for the sake of Justice itself! Watch out!

Remember, they didn't call #Libra Margaret Thatcher the "Iron Lady" for nothing.

Of course, I carry on about #Libra, because it's a very fascinating sign.

Naturally, all these things depend on the dynamics of your own personal horoscope, not just one sign. This is a general guide.
