New York Times has declared that the Press Freedom in #India is on a declining spree. But the analysis isn’t theirs, but an Op-ed written by journalist & activist, Anuradha Bhasin Jamwal, Executive Editor of The Kashmir Times.
A Thread:
Ms. Bhasin has been a vocal critic of the Indian establishment for a while. She’s one of the ‘Brown Sepoys’ to set global anti-India discourse on #Kashmir . But she has her reasons: reasons that make her qualify as a ‘Brown Sepoy’.

Anuradha Bhasin is the daughter of late journalist Ved Bhasin, founder of the newspaper ‘The Kashmir Times’. Anuradha was living illegally in the house, the possession of which remained with her father from 1990s till his death in 2015.

Ved Bhasin was a staunch supporter of the #ISI operations on #Kashmir and supported the idea of Kashmir’s separation from India. In fact, he was a close friend of ISI mole Ghulam Nabi Fai in the US. Fai even wrote a piece after the demise of Ved Bhasin!

Ved Bhasin, along with Anuradha Bhasin, Ejaz Ul Haq (ex-Federal Minister of Pak), Prof. Angana Chatterji, and Gautam Navlakha, was one of the frequent attendees of ISI-sponsored conferences organized by Fai & his Kashmir American Council (KAC).

Following her father’s footsteps, Ms Bhasin too been supportive of ISI-operations by Fai. In an article, Anuradha firmly absolved Fai receiving money from the #ISI for carrying out anti-India pursuit on Kashmir in the US and even supported ISI-sponsored anti-India events.

But eventually, Fai gave up and pled guilty of defrauding the US by concealing the transfer of millions of dollars from the ISI and using them for anti-India operations. Fai was jailed for two years for his illegal lobbying efforts on #Kashmir.

Bhasin’s support for Fai still continued. In 2015, she was invited as a speaker at the 12th International Kashmir Conference in NY, where Fai was presented as speaker alongside Polis Project co-founder Suchitra Vijayan. But her paper was presented at the event.

Now with all the information on the plate, here’s a question for #NYTimes : were these facts not required to be looked into before taking her word for it and making a declaration waiting to come from a credible source?
