How not to do social media ‘analysis’: a lesson in two stories - #GeorgeSoros and #Bollywood

𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 1: #𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘀
Laced with data & gimmick, डाटा नंदन posted a thread on how Soros was vilified by Indian RW
But he DIDN’T challenge any facts at all. Not even that #Soros himself takes credit behind regime change
So what’s the point? Soros mustn’t be criticized!
2/11
And what’s that appealing data and analysis?
He presented a collage of people reacting to the story on Soros as evidence of a coordinated campaign- a data taken in a course of just TWO DAYS!
3/11
If anything happens in the world, it is discussed by all sorts of audience on social media. That's how social media works.
But per his analysis standards:
a. #HindenburgReport -Adani episode
b. #PentagonLeak news
c. Arjun Tendulkar’s #IPL debut
Contd.
4/11
And even #Apple CEO Tim Cook’s visit to India for the launch of Apple stores (that created a global buzz on social media & was talked about with lakhs of tweets every hour).
were all coordinated campaigns?!
5/11
Soros should be given credit for one thing – making ruling Indian govt and opposition agree on a single topic!
But even he failed to influence these geniuses for whom it was all a RW propaganda targeting the poor man!

𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 2 – 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱:
Per our two experts,
- If Bollywood movie fails, it’s because of social media boycott by RW.
- If Bollywood movie succeeds: Modi is losing war against Bollywood!
चित भी मेरी पट भी मेरी, अंटा 𝘚𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘴 का

Have these geniuses ever tried considering the possibility that, MAY BE, movies getting flopped/ hit largely depends on whether they are entertaining enough?!
Or perhaps, even all the film critics in all news media have become RW?!
8/11
But it isn’t the first time. The डाटा नंदन in past had published a report– again on ‘ostensibly RW’ – and lapped by ‘The Wire’ and ilk.
Earlier, University of Michigan distanced itself from the story (in question) claiming he was on ‘leave’ while conducting the study.

𝗜𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗲:
With so many accomplishments on social media analysis– डाटा नंदन recently hosted a ‘Social Media & Society in India’ (SMSI) conclave powered by School of Information @UMich on Apr 7-8, 2023.
10/11
The list of notable guests at the conclave was adorned by:
@AbhinandanSekhr (News Laundry co-founder) @RoflGandhi_ (A Troll Parody Account Sunil Sharma), @_sayema (Radio Jockey) @khanumarfa (The Wire journo), among others.
