(1) Quick thread about the 2018 National Guard border deployment. It takes literally 15 minutes to find, read & watch enough info about the 2006 #OperationJumpStart mission for anyone to understand the good it will do. Watch this 2 min video:
(2) Guardsmen & women throughout the country are offered the opportunity to volunteer for this mission. (I imagine any Governors unwilling to co-operate are gonna have a bad time). It's great for the country but it's also great for the volunteers.
(3) Members of the National Guard come from all walks of life & have all kinds of personal circumstances. Most will serve anywhere, anytime even if that's at particularly high cost, like being in Iraq for 16 months while your only child goes through infancy & toddlerhood.
(4) It's uncomfortably hot at the border for most of the year, esp from now on. But come winter, a lot of Guardsmen & women might factor in the chance to get away from the cold for 90 days or more.😉 The skills developed help advance careers inside & outside the Guard.
(5) From what I've seen, people report strong satisfaction from serving alongside CBP law enforcement and other public servants. It just makes common sense that the deployment helps the Guard with readiness. Busy people are learning & growing.
(6) For those who complain about the cost of carrying out this critical national security function on an emergency basis: Guess what, there's a less expensive way to do it.

(7) #BuildTheWall is necessary but not sufficient, and for 17 months Congress has been made well aware of the other measures that are needed, down to the number of vehicles and radios. There are no excuses. None.
(8) Trump has won the argument, the debate is over, the wall's being built, it will pay for itself 100 x in cost savings, the border is secure, and we continue to Make America Great Again.
