Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Badr which occurred on 17th Ramadhan 2 AH (624 CE)

Badr is around 150km from Madinah. This is the current site of the battle.

The Muslims, including the Prophet (صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلّم) numbered only 313 with only 2 horses and 70 camels. The Quraysh army on the other hand had over 1000 men, 100 horses, 700 camels and were armed to their teeth.

Masjid Areesh today marks the spot where the Prophet (صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلّم) pitched his tent. The site also functioned as the planning headquarters for the Muslims.

The Prophet (صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلّم) spent the previous night in prayer, “O Allah! If this group is destroyed today, You will not be worshipped forever. O Allah! If is Your consent that after this day You will not be worshipped for ever.”

Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) brought down His help in the form of angels who descended from this mountain area to assist the Muslims in achieving a glorious victory.

14 Muslims were honoured with martyrdom on this day, six from the Muhajireen and eight from the Ansar. On the Quraysh side there were 70 slain, including Abu Jahal whom the Prophet (صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلّم) described as the ‘Firawn’ of this Ummah.

The dead Quraysh were thrown inside a foul smelling well which used to be in this region. The Prophet (صَلّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلّم) stood over the well and called out to each chieftain by name, “O son of so and so! Do you wish you had obeyed Allah and his Messenger?".

"I have found that what my Lord promised me is true. Did you find your Lord’s promise true?”.
"O Prophet (s.a.w.)“, Umar (r.a.) asked. “How can you talk to bodies which have no souls?”.
“They hear me just as you do, but they cannot answer,” the Prophet (s.a.w.) explained. Image
"Indeed there was a sign for you in the two groups which met. One group fought in the way of Allah while the other was Kuffar who saw them as twice their number with their very eyes. Allah strengthens with His aid whoever He wills..." (Quran 3:13)

Thread about the Hajar al-Aswad (The Black Stone):

The Hajar al-Aswad, is set in the eastern corner of the Ka’bah in Makkah. Tawaf begins and ends facing this sacred stone.

(cont'd...)
Throughout the ages, countless people including many of the Prophets (عليه الصلاة والسلام), the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) himself, the Sahabah (رضي الله عنهم), pious personalities and millions of Muslims who have performed Hajj and Umrah have placed their blessed lips on it.
It was brought from Jannah and presented to Ebrahim (as) to be placed in the corner of the Ka’bah.

Ibn Abbas (ra) narrates the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The Black Stone came down from Paradise and it was whiter than milk, but the sins of the sons of Adam turned it black.” [Tirmidhi]

Thread about 25 fruits/vegetables/herbs mentioned in the #Quran or #Hadith.

All of them can be found growing in the Quranic Park in #Dubai along with many others. It's a recommended visit.

One reference from Qur'an/Hadith has been provided for each. (Cont'd...)
1. Fig (‘Teen’)

“[I swear] by the FIG and the olive.”
(Qur’an 95:1)
2. Olive (‘Zait’)

“And a tree (OLIVE) that springs forth from Mount Sinai, that grows oil, and (it is a) relish for the eaters.”
(Qur’an 23:20)

The Ka’bah, also known as Baytullah (The House of Allah) is the first house built for humanity to worship Allah (ﷻ).

The small, cubed building may not rival other famous buildings in terms of size but its impact on history and human beings is unmatched.

(continue thread...)
The Ka'bah functions as the Qiblah, the direction to which all Muslims pray five times a day. Muslims do not pray to the Ka’bah, it functions merely as a unifying direction point.

This graphic shows how some countries around the world are aligned to the Ka'bah.
Regarding the Ka’bah, Allah (ﷻ) mentions in the Quran in Surah Al-Ma’idah:

“Allah has made the Ka’bah, the Sacred House, an asylum of security and benefits (e.g. Hajj and Umrah) for mankind.” [5:97]

Today, 17 Ramadhan, is the anniversary of the Battle of Badr which took place in 2 AH (624 CE).

In this thread I'll go through 13 landmarks associated with the battle, from the point the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Sahabah left Madinah to the aftermath of the battle.

Masjid Suqya

This is located 2km from Masjid-e-Nabwi, near the Anbariya train station.

When the Prophet (ﷺ) departed for the battle of Badr he stopped here, performed ablution and offered salah. He then supplicated for the dwellers of Madinah and paraded his forces.
(2/13)
Irq al-Zabiyyah

This is where the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Sahabah stopped on the 14th Ramadhan on their march to Badr.

The Prophet (ﷺ) consulted with the Sahabah here whether they should go forward and fight against the mushrikeen (polytheists) of Makkah.

The Dome of the Rock is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. It houses the sacred rock from where the Prophet (ﷺ) ascended to heaven (Mi’raj).

What's less known are some of the special design features in the interior.

We'll cover them in this thread (cont'd): Image

The building was commissioned by Caliph Abd al-Malik and completed in 692 CE.

The two planners were Raja ibn Haywah, a Muslim scholar and Yazid ibn Salam, a non-Arab Muslim native of Jerusalem.

A lot of thought went into how the interior was formed. Image

There are 8 large pillars holding up the building on each internal corner

These are akin to the 8 angels holding up the throne of Allah (ﷻ) as mentioned in Surah al-Haqqah of the Quran:

“…And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight (of them).” Image
