⚖️Or we could take the case of one of Colombia’s biggest drug traffickers, Pablo Escobar, who according to his son, paid $1 million to M19 guerrilla rebels to storm Colombia’s Palace of Justice on November 6, 1985.
🏛️M19 rebels took 300 people hostage, including 24 Supreme Court justices, and 20 other judges. After freeing 200 hostages from the lower floors of the building, the next day, Colombian Army troops stormed the building, creating chaos.
A total of 6,000 documents were destroyed in the resulting conflagration: including criminal records & warrants of the M19 rebels, Pablo Escobar & the rest of the “Los Extraditables,” a group of cocaine smugglers who were all under threat of being extradited to the United States.
🔥Most people believe this was the objective of the raid.
⚖️4 years later, a judge ruled that the fire was intentionally set. It was said to have “crippled the Colombian legal system.”
🇺🇸M19 and Escobar shared the same fear of being extradited to the United States.
⚰️More than 100 died during the assault, including 11 Supreme Court justices, 30-40 M19 rebels including 5 leaders, soldiers and civilians. 11 hostages survived the attack and were taken away by the Colombian army, but were never seen again.
⚖️In September 2007, The Colombian Supreme Court ordered that General Retired General Jesus Armando Arias Cabrales be investigated and about a year later an arrest was issued.
💥After 27 trial sessions, he was found guilty of aggravated enforced disappearance for the 11 people.
💥In 2011, Arias was sentenced to 35 years for the disappearance of the 11 people who made it out alive, including an assistant judge, cafeteria workers, 2 visitors and one M19 guerrilla.
⚰️In October 2015, 3 of the bodies of the 11 missing were identified with the aid of photographs taken by Dutch journalists, who were staking out a cemetery in January 1986 when they saw a van driving in and 2 men unloading bodies from it.
📷The Dutch journalists told a human rights lawyer about the incident and left because of other pressing commitments. In 2008, one of the former journalists (now long since moved on) read an article which stated the 11 people were still missing.
⚰️The Dutch men, Jan Thielen & Harry van der Aart, found out that the human rights lawyer they had spoken with had been killed in 1998 and never told anyone about their discovery & photos.
✍️According to Ana Carrigan’s 1993 book "The Palace of Justice: A Colombian Tragedy," the Supreme Court Chief Justice was burned alive after gasoline was poured all over his body.
🌋Carrigan asserted approximately 28 bodies were thought to be buried in a mass grave—first created after the Nevado del Ruiz volcano eruption—where the bodies were soaked in acid and unidentifiable.
M19 rebels at first demanded that the then Colombian president Belisario Betancur and his defense minister to put on trial for violating a peace treaty in a civil conflict.
ℹ️The M19 rebels eventually gave up their weapons, received pardons & became a political party called the M-19 Democratic Alliance ("Alianza Democrática M-19", or (AD/M-19)) in the late 1980s. It survived into the 1990s despite several members being threatened or murdered.
👻The political party, the M-19 Democratic Alliance, petered out in the 2000s.
🏃♂️Escobar escaped from a luxurious private “prison” he designed called La Catedral prison, which featured a football pitch (AKA soccer field), giant doll house, bar, jacuzzi and waterfall.
I've been screaming about this since 2018. Canada 🇨🇦developed the “Learn to Discern” program which taught 15,000 Ukrainians 🇺🇦 how to detect and decode misinformation and propaganda.
If the Ukrainians did not have this training, they might be begging Putin to annex them.
Finland 🇫🇮, the Netherlands 🇳🇱, Poland 🇵🇱 & other European countries are also took measures to educate the public on Russian propaganda and cyber attacks. We continue to do nothing. #RussiaReport
⁉️ Why in God's name haven't we done this in the U.S. the #propaganda and #disinformation is OUT OF CONTROL here! It is the biggest problem globally, without question.
Fox News, OAN, Newsmax, etc...all need to be regulated somehow.
This “Russian Olympic Committee” deal is complete BS. The Russians are supposed to be banned for 4 years, starting in 2019, for blatant, systematic cheating. And then Putin lied about it. This is what happens when you make deals with criminals.
Don Cornelius—who died in 2012—is credibly accused of brutalizing 2 women who worked for Playboy, tying them up & raping them, locking them in closet. For 3 days.
Story from their “bunny mother,” who was part of the “clean up crew.”
🔥 This story did not get enough attention. Basically, Pence was afraid of being kidnapped by the Secret Service (presumably directed by Trump) so that the certification could not be completed. That’s nuts!!
⚾️ When people complained about long baseball games, the Major League Baseball responded with new rules such as limiting visits to the mound, timing pitching changes, etc.
What in God’s name have we done to speed up the judicial system and the people who use it to delay reality?
Steve Bannon? He’s entitled to “due process,” but let’s face it, he did it.
He was issued a subpoena and he violated it.
There is no reason this should go on for a year.
People caught on videotape committing a crime? Seems like those cases could be expedited.
📰 Julie K. Brown’s series on the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes was entered in 2 categories for the Pulitzer Prize: investigative reporting and local reporting.
It didn’t even make the finals in either category despite arguably being the reason for Epstein’s arrest.j
After Epstein served his time in a private wing of the Palm Beach County Stockade, most of the press coverage consisted of tabloid-type pictures of him and girls who looked underage.
It was alleged in Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit that Epstein instructed her to have sex with Dershowitz.
Dershowitz strongly denied the allegations. He also attacked Brown & @MiamiHerald although Brown said in her book, “In hindsight, I wish I had included more about Dershowitz.”
