I Made $31,000 Selling My First Book. This Is How I Did It

To start, this stragedy only works if you're some sort of E
expert in a topic and you wrote no fictions books.

If you're not, you can be, and you should be.

Also helps if you already have an audience but not essential.
To become an expert is actually easy - find something you're interested in, that millions of other people are interested in too and bury yourself in it, mastering it and then sharing what you learn(t) with the world. Yes, it's that simple. And yes, it will make you rich.
So I wrote and published this book, "Sell Your Brain" in October 2016. Since then we have "sold" over 20,000 copies. I put "sold" in quotes because we actually gave all 20,000 copies away for free. So how did it make $31,000?

I thought you'd never ask. Let's ride!
Like I said earlier for this to work, you need to:

1. Be an expert at a topic people are interested in learning about.

2. Have other stuff you're selling, most likely, a course, consulting, live webinar, DFY (Done For You) service, etc.

This should be selling for a high amount
So I run a Digital Marketing agency, and because most small businesses can't afford us, we create home study courses they can buy that still teach them our methods. We also sell consulting time. These range from =N=49,000 to as high as =N=7,000,000 a pop.
I wrote the book to show pepper how they could take the knowledge, experience, insights and other stuff they already have and sell it for millions.

I of course wanted them to buy one of our courses, which we called, the "Sell Your Brain Mastery" course.
The course cost =N=49000, delivered digitally, but instead of trying to sell a course for that amount, I decided to start with a book. If you got the book and liked it and wanted to implement you then buy the course.

And thats where the genius of the system comes in.

You see...
People, especially those encountering you for the first time will readily buy a low priced book from you than a high priced course.

So the book serves two purposes:

i. It positions you as an expert. Everybody respects a published author.

ii. If they like the book, they'll...
want to buy the course because the natural, logical progression of things is to fully get the benefits the book talked about, you need to. Implement, and the course shows you how to implement.

So that's what we did.

But next, I wanted to sell a lot of books. I wanted my book...
buyers to feel they were getting a bargain by getting the book, so we decided to copy a tactic, Russell Brunson, one of my friends in the USA used to sell 50,000 copies of his book and at same time sell over $1 million worth of his marketing software - give the book away for free
And that's what we did. We gave the book away for free, and we went on to sell over $31,000 worth of the "Sell Your Brain Mastery" course.

Here's how the process works.

STEP One: You set up a website asking people to get the book sent to their address FREE OF CHARGE.
All they need to do is just cover the cost of shipping the book to their address.

You need to charge enough to cover the cost of printing each copy and shipping it to the remotest part of Nigeria cheaply

For the my book,we charged =N=2,500 Naira for shipping anywhere in Nigeria
STEP Two: Once you took that offer, we made sure we shipped it out the very next day so it would reach you as fast as possible. The reason is when people are interested in something, they are in what I call a "marketing heat period", a small window of time when they are so hot...
for the thing, they're willing to spend as much much money as they can on it and relayed stuff like addon courses, consulting time, webinars, etc. I wanted to make sure they got the book while they were in heat.

STEP Three: With each book we shipped, we inserted a "love" letter.
This letter thanked them for buying the book, and described how the "Sell Your Brain Mastery" course would help them put into action immediately what they had just read about inside the book. And it made them an offer to get it at a discounted price of =N=49,000 with a deadline.
The book also had on every single page, the link to a webpage where they could read this same letter describing the "Sell Your Brain Mastery" course. I also at the end of the book, put a page with a summary of what they'd learn in the course with the discounted offer too.
It was a hit. We got a ton of orders, and people loved it so much they were taking pictures of themselves with the book and posting it on Facebook creating a viral effect.

In the first two months, we had sold over =N=11 million worth of books and courses.
I stopped selling the course after then as I got so.busy with our high ticket clients and I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up and we just focused on giving away free books because we were still making an average of =N=300 per free book we shipped.

How? I'll explain.

So...
We had to charge everyone a flat shipping fee of =N=2,500. Request for free books from fra places like Gombe or Port Harcourt sometimes cost =N=2,700 meaning we were saying more than they sent for shipping, right? But orders from Lagos cost us only =N=1,200, then layer =N=1,500.
And each book cost =N=700 to print.

Because we got more 80% of the orders from Lagos it meant we still managed toake a small profit off them to offset any one that went over and beyond.

So should you use this strategy?

Absolutely!

It works. You simply need to know how to...
set it up, create the marketing content, and viola, you'll be in the green always.

This is who I'll release all of my upcoming books going forward.

It's craxy effective.

When you open a new Google Ad account:

1. Make sure you input a Dollar Card from a bank (not Barter, and not Naira)

2. Set up a generic ad FIRST. Make sure it's tamer than sheep.

3. Do not be silly and use a landing page that says, "How to Make a Gazzilion Naira in 2 Seconds".
4. Make sure your landing pages has links to an "About Us", "Terms and Conditions" and "Disclaimer" pages.

These should not be dummy pages. They should ACTUALLY have the content as labelled.

5. Set up a generic ad FIRST. Make sure it's tamer than sheep.

6. If your account is banned anyway, appeal. And send supporting documents - screenshots of your address, a utility bill, business registration documents, etc.

You want to make the best case you can. You don;t have a registered business? Why? LOL!
