So a few minutes ago, @theskinpriest responded to my tweet saying a 33-year-old dating an 18-year-old was predatory.

I responded off the cuff saying I don't believe it is. But it made me think.

I know a lot of this may be genuine but we have to admit, despite an 18-year-old...

being an adult, do they really have the emotional maturity to navigate sexual relationships with someone who is quite older & who obviously has garnered a lot of experience along the way by virtue of age?

I remember a friend of mine (lived abroad at the time, Dad was a diplomat)

who told me she ran away from home to be with her then 30-year old boyfriend, who married her and then subsequently proceeded to batter her emotionally and physically over the next 15 years until she managed to divorce him.

We cannot deny the dynamics for this age range are...

highly skewed in favour of older men. And many would abuse this power if they know they can, and they 100% know they can

Granted some ladies are mature to handle it, and will come out unscathed but the majority are not, and that's why I now agree with her and changing my stance.

To really get it, ask yourself: would you let a 33-year-old man marry your 18-year-old daughter?

Would you be happy to hear your 30-year-old friend is dating & screwing your 18-year-old sister?

If thinking about it, makes you even a tiny bit uncomfortable, maybe do a rethink.

Having said this, its not my place to decided for someone what to do with their life.

So long they aren't my child, if an 18 year old decides to date a 30 year old, Godspeed to her.
