So, we're heading towards the Big Amendment Showdown...
- Theresa May could be about to whip MPs to vote in an amendment that would wreck the deal she spent the last couple of years negotiating by mandating the Irish backstop be removed
- Labour, having pushed TM to kill off a no deal Brexit, may whip against Yvette Cooper's amendment designed to take a huge step in that direction
- Up to a dozen other amendments are in the mix
- Nobody knows which the Speaker will choose
- Govt may ignore outcome of vote anyway
- And finally, the stinking icing on the whole putrid cake: none of the amendments may get a majority, leaving us still careening towards the no deal Brexit cliff edge with no one anywhere near the brakes.

Barclays received legal permission in January 2019 to move €190 billion (£166 billion) of assets from the UK to Dublin in advance of 29 March 2019. The sum represents about 15% of the bank's total assets. It is doubling its Dublin operation to 300 staff.

These things don't happen overnight, even if the news has only been widely reported now that the asset move was confirmed by the High Court. Barclays started putting the Brexit contingency plan in motion back in 2017.

Remarkably, even that eye-watering sum is less than they actually wanted to move. They had asked in their original court filing in October 2018 to be able to move €250 billion worth of business.

Barclays has just been granted permission to shift 190 billion euro of assets out of the UK. Not sure that was on the side of the bus.

Commonalities between yesterday's Brady amendment vote and the Brexit referendum:
- Very narrow margin
- Based on false promises of something undeliverable
- Many of those voting didn't appear to understand what they were voting for
- Others were just desperate for change
- Brought together very strange bedfellows
- Was portrayed as an overwhelming victory by much of the media
- Baffled people in the EU, and watching further afield
- Hurt the pound
- Unsettled businesses
- Didn't actually resolve anything
Meanwhile, as Theresa May builds glass houses then gets her loyal troops to kick balls through them, here's the damage Brexit is already wreaking (you can expect the pace to pick up after last night's fiasco):

For Americans, a quick rough guide to what just happened with Brexit. First up, there was a referendum about leaving the E.U. which “leave” narrowly won. Article 50 was invoked, saying the UK had 2 years until it would be out of the E.U. permanently - that runs out in March. /1
Prime Minister May spent much of the last two years attempting to negotiate a deal for the withdrawal from the E.U., but over the last couple of years it has become increasingly clear that there is no consensus in Parliament as to what that deal should look like. /2
This is partly because the scale of the decision/its implications have become clear over time. Some in parliament have doubled down on leaving and wish no deal at all with the E.U. (falling back on World Trade Organisarkon standards) but this is generally thought to be bad. /3

Where are we with all this?
2/8 If Theresa May has bribed and blackmailed sufficient MPs to vote for her deal tomorrow then categorically that's not what 17 million people voted for and therefore not representative of democracy.
3/8 If her deal doesn't go through Parliament tomorrow then we are left legally with the hardest cliff edge no deal Brexit which also 17 million people didnt vote for, therefore this is also categorically not representative of democracy.
