February has begun, time to give my January @ClosetTools growth stats. #openstartup

Traffic: 2970 [+133.4%]
MRR: $3588 [+13.2%]
New Trials: 97 [+36.6%]
New Customers: 52 [+26.8%]
Conversion Rate: 32.2%
Churn Tate: 24.7%

Let me tell you why January was the best month yet 👇 ImageImage
There were a few major events.

1. I finished an app for a friend that was only supposed to take a few months and ended up taking 8 months.
2. I shipped an official Chrome extension for the Closet Assistant.
3. I started working on the Closet Assistant 2.0.
The app that I finished was a Trucking freight app that interfaced with the Box API to manage documents between drivers and dispatchers. As a learning experience it was amazing. As a work life balance, it was a mess. It took way longer than expected. I'm glad I'm done!
The official Google Chrome extension is now live! 🎉 closet.tools/chrome Up until now I had users downloading the extension manually and installing it locally. It really cut into my onboarding. I'm so glad this is u. I've seen a significant uptick in installs and free trials.
The first version of the Closet Assistant was an MVP. It got the job done, but it lacked the qualities of a fully-stacked product. I'll be working on the back-end to give the user more flexibility with billing and subscriptions, and I'll be adding a ton of features.
When I was working on the trucking app, I couldn't give 100% of my focus towards the Closet Assistant. Now I can, and it's going to explode. My goal is to reach $10k MRR by the summer.
How will I reach that goal? More features, community building, another free product to use as a lead-gen, and a proper launch (my first Product Hunt launch!).
I really want to utilize a to-do app such as @matteing's @GetMakerlog. This will help with accountability, but also help get my Indiehacker story more into the public eye.
Not only do I want to make great applications for my customers, I also want to inspire other Indiehackers and Makers to make tools that help people and solve problems (and are massively profitable).
The official Closet Assistant 2.0 launch will be this summer, and that's when I want to beef up my personal contribution to the Indiehacker community - by making free guides and courses so anyone can get started.
Thanks for reading! Really exciting things coming up. I'm glad I can share good news with you all.

Comment below 👇, what are you most looking forward to shipping in February?

It's 2023 and you want to boost your SEO traffic. Don't create new content - refresh what you already have!

I made a video that shows my exact steps for refreshing existing content to rank higher for keywords I already rank for (huge value for businesses):
Step 1: Make your content more relevant for 2023.

Things change over time. This causes your content to become stale.

Improve your content by adding or changing any information that may have changed over the last year.

Add the current year to your titles to signal relevance.
Step 2: Optimize your content to rank higher for existing keywords.

Check the Google Search console for keywords you rank in the 5th to 10th position. Looks for high impressions.

Find keywords that could be customers, and update your content to target that keyword specifically.

Some of the highest traffic, lowest competition keywords on Google are brand searches.

People don't search for "shoes" or "laptops". They search for "Nike shoes", or "Apple laptops".

Here's how to syphon a competitor's traffic to build your own audience or business:
Syphon or Siphon?
I would also like to syphon some of your attention by having you sign up for my Inner Circle newsletter.

I'm coming out with a bunch of SEO related products soon and you'll be the first to hear about it:

After three years of being an Indiehacker (solo founder), a husband, and a father of 3 young kids, I finally have dialed in on a routine that works consistently for the whole family.

I find it highly productive. It reduces a lot of friction (mainly around communication).

🧵
Every couple of months my wife and I would try something different with our schedules.

They were generally centered around when I got work done, and when she got work done.

When you've got 3 young kids (5, 3, and 1), you have to schedule work or it won't happen.
Here's the schedule:

(AM)
5: Wake, Most Important Task
7/8: Kids wake, I make breakfast. Wife works.
10: I get ready for the day, start work.

(PM)
3: Off work. Check in / clean.
4/5: Make/eat dinner.
8: Bed time for older kids.
10: Bed.

The two most important aspects of an internet business:

- Signaling trust to platforms.
- Signaling trust to customers.

This is so fundamental, and it's blowing my mind.

It seems abstract, but I can explain:

🧵
For any business, both online and offline, trust is *everything*.

Customers need to trust you'll deliver what you're selling, and they'll get the value they expect.

Platforms & institutions need to trust you are who you say you are, and that you're a credible source/business.
Without trust, no one will buy your product/service.

Without trust, platforms and institutions won't give you distribution or allow you to run your business effectively.

When you lose trust, you lose business.

Continuing a lack of trust is a downward spiral.
