Post truth politics is one thing but the much bigger threat is the evolution of a post truth society. If it is seen as acceptable for leaders to lie than that will translate into behaviours in society. Respect for truth ceases and ergo so does trust. 1/

And let's think about that. In a post truth society there is no respect for truth. People will say anything without any consequence. Goods and services will bought entirely on lies. It becomes normalized and sadly it would even start to be commended in society 2/

But surely, we would say, there are structures in place to prevent society becoming a society of lies. Well actually, as we now see, the judiciary can be easily compromised and unable in fact to insist that truth is our baseline. It has not prevented a referendum of lies 3/

Perhaps our salvation would be enshrined in law but as we have seen with Vote Leave their defence is about interpretation of the law... and we all know what means. As a lawyer told once, "Don't expect justice from the law..." 4/

But surely there are market governing bodies to prevent abuse... well in fact no, in a Neo feudal society those are done away with, no regs, no controls, that's what free market fundamentalists want. If the utilities company fucks you over there is no recourse. 5/

But surely the markets will prevent abuse... no, because Neo feudal societies are run by oligarchies, no competition.. which means they can screw you. They don't need to care about customers anymore. Sound familiar? 5/

And so it is the actually we can evolve to an utterly lost truth society where the fabric of society based in the respect for truth is rippled apart to be replaced by a society based on bullshit. 6/

If that happens society essentially falls apart. It becomes a jungle subject to the laws of the jungle. It becomes lawless and that can only lead to authoritarianism... oppression, violent or financial and probably both. 7/

And that is why we must hold on to the truth, demand the truth, demand it of politicians and demand that Parliament defend the truth and go after the post truth poison of the Leave campaign. If we don't stop that now then society will without question disintegrate. 8/

And let's face it, the disintegration of society is what the Leave campaign wants, it's what white supremacists want. And when we look at society we see that disintegration happening, a horrible truth... based on lies. 9/

So the answer my friends is hold on to truth, call out the lies, call out the liars, speak the truth and keep speaking it until it swamps the lies and the liars. You know who they are....
