Narrator: He only thinks it’s a disaster because the Black woman won.
Harris, Biden face-off is highest-rated Democratic primary debate in history cnn.it/2XhF8Lh via @CNN cc @JoeNBC
By now I’ve seen enough hot takes from the White male punditry on the Kamala v. Joe dynamics to know that their main beef is not just with her assertiveness but her unapologetically Black confrontation of his privilege for all the world to see. They feel admonished. As intended.
Also I already knew it in my bones when I told y’all the pals around with segregationists/anti-busing issue was gonna keep coming back to bite Joe’s ass and a whole lotta White ppl showed up in my mentions to tell me I was making a mountain out of a molehill. Welcome to the ⛰.
Hillary tried to get White men prepared for confrontations of their oppressive privilege and they still hate her for it with a passion. We’ve seen this movie before and the bottom line is still that none of their hatred/fragility renders the exercise unnecessary or optional.
This includes White men on the left, and in some ways even more so. Some folk are so convinced of their intersectional prowess and wokeness that they can’t be bothered to hear how in reality they’re functioning as an unreliable ally who needs to do more work on their privilege.
Maybe you think segregation and busing over 50 years ago are a molehill in the present day because your people aren’t still having to climb a fucking mountain to overcome them over 50 years later. 🧐 Start with checking your privilege before you weigh in.
I recognize that busing always was and still is a complex issue for both Black & White Americans for various reasons but if you’re standing in today’s racist climate yet still unwilling to take stock of the journey that got us here, you aren’t being helpful or conducive to change
Apart from all of that, please believe that “as the only Black person on stage” Kamala wasn’t going to pass up any chances to draw a stark contrast with the candidate who has a recognition based hold on so much of the Black vote. It was premeditated and on purpose with t shirts.
Also the fact that the best Joe could do to explain himself was some worn out states rights bullshit is precisely why she came for him. Jim Crow isn’t anywhere near dead and approaching it with the same lackadaisical, privileged attitudes from yesteryear won’t kill it in 2020.
None of the exchange was a mistake, accident or spur of the moment calculation on Kamala’s part. It was a huge opportunity for both of them to reach the base of the Democratic Party directly but only one of them used it to their advantage. Be more curious why Joe couldn’t/didn’t.
No matter how much WWC/economic anxiety crack the MSM has smoked since the beginning of the Obama era, the fact still remains that the road to the Democratic Party nomination runs through Black voters, specifically in the South. Thoughtful answers/policies re: race are required.
This isn’t a “50 years ago” issue, the SCOTUS is handing down Jim Crow decisions as we tweet. Segregation is still upon us and the public divestment that results from it is why we don’t have nice things like a living wage, adequately funded schools or universal healthcare.
The attitudes and identities that shaped the worst growing pains of integration in the 50s-60s are still in control of the federal government and most of the states. Their refusal to be constructively critiqued or asked to demonstrate growth is precisely why ain’t shit changed.
Separate and unequal is still a thing. America’s ongoing failure to reconcile, repair or integrate marginalized people has everything to do with every socioeconomic problem that ails our society today. That isn’t an aggressive cheap shot, it’s a basic fact of American reality.
Marginalized groups aren’t just going to forget these issues are important to our basic survival just because the alleged front runner didn’t expect anyone to be audacious enough to call it out on the debate stage. That woman is HER. Deal with it.
It isn’t Kamala’s or any other candidate’s job in this primary to take it easy on Joe or his blindspots. If your argument is he needs special treatment because he’s from another time and place you’re reinforcing her point. Snooze you lose.
If/when this strategy pays dividends with the Black voters it was intended for don’t act surprised or confused. We’re just getting started but I’m already not here for your feigned poutrage. The warnings have been ample, you just don’t wanna hear them because they hurt. 😒
Turns out I just discussed all of the above issues and more with @RickSmithShow this week. If you enjoyed this thread, the podcast will wrap it up in a neat bow for you. 🔥podbean.com/ea/pb-q79ya-b5…
Black woman running for POTUS shares her life experience & how it’s influenced her perspective on segregation/integration on live TV but bc the White man front runner couldn’t muster a coherent forward thinking response the Bros think he was “attacked”. 🙄
It would be more honest and believable if these people just admitted they don’t want to hear or grant any legitimacy to the lived experiences of non-White people, especially when said perspectives contradict their fairy tales. Just admit the shit, we already see y’all.
What they’re really saying is how dare she not preserve and delicately manicure the veil of White patriarchy’s feigned innocence and benevolence. How dare she suggest that even the most well meaning White people still have work to do to right the wrongs of the past & present. 😱
How dare she recommend we rethink issues we already thought were settled ground, how dare she say things that cause us to feel uncomfortable and uncertain about all the things we’ve always thought. This must be an attack, we can’t possibly have gotten so much shit wrong. ❄️⛄️❄️
The identity politics police only want to hear from people with White identity, it’s the only way they can insulate themselves from accountability and responsibility to equality. Asking them to GAF about everyone else feels like an attack because they don’t want to do it. Period.
The folk who’ve been accusing Booker and Harris of injecting their Blackness into the primary aren’t prepared for the fact that Warren can capably speak the same set of inconvenient truths to Biden when she meets up with him on the debate stage too. ☕️
“Horse-race analysis in the media may be fun, but the broader context must be unearthed if we’re to advance, if we’re to understand that our racially sundered history in the schools and public spaces is more relevant than we’d have ever imagined today.”

The thing that’s always struck me about this (not only as a Black woman but also as a psychiatrist IRL who’s literally tasked with helping people cope with stress, illness and the ups & downs of life) is the Black woman savior complex of it all. It’s subconscious but ubiquitous.
As with many things in America, I also think it’s yet another sociological phenomenon brought to us by slavery. A lot of White family systems fell apart (continue to) without the presence of a Mammy or some form of matriarchal Black help in the home. jstor.org/stable/2714687

Except for all intents/purposes, VA *was* TX not too long ago. The 2021 Gubernatorial election set back over a decade of hard-won progress by VA Democrats. It can happen in ANY historically or recently “blue” state at the drop of a dime, if enough White voters DEFECT/vote GOP. 🥴 ImageImageImageImage

The other thing to remember is #WeTriedToTellThem ALL of this shit was gonna happen (all over again) but HELL NO. This is yet another consequence of MAGAts who have both a death wish and outsized influence on every single public/private system in 🇺🇸 running the asylum. 🤡👹👺🦊 ImageImageImageImage

Adding this here b/c it’s really important that we also recognize how the toxic/violent masculinization of GOP women voters also extends to #MAGAWoman elected officials. They’ve created an army of Ashli Babbitts who aid/abet the radicalization of their menfolk & themselves. 👹🤡
By now we’ve seen too many GOP/GOP adjacent mothers/wives/girlfriends either completely “overlook” the extremism in their midst or actively enable and facilitate the obstinance/defiance and evasion of consequences that leads to White, right wing domestic terrorism. #VanillaISIS
The thing that really chaps my hide about it is I’ve heard Republicans vilify Black family values & label us criminals/social deviants my whole life, yet here they are breeding & grooming the most PROLIFIC White domestic terrorists America’s ever seen and the NARRATIVE is SILENT.

I can assure you you’re roasting your own self, dear. 🥴 Deplorable and unexamined White privilege are a CHOICE, they go together like PB&J.
