This spring, I started a project, with the help of a classmate, to keep track of the 2020 Presidential candidates in an accessible, fun way. We created these baseball cards with each candidate’s stats and where they stand on a few issues, in their own words. #DemDebate
I’ve sourced these quotes from various interviews the candidates have done with @nytimes, @NBCNews, @voxdotcom and their respective local outlets, among others. Here are the candidates participating in tonight’s #DemDebate:
@nytimes@NBCNews@voxdotcom Marianne Williamson, an author, self-help guru and Oprah’s spiritual adviser. Her campaign is focused on leading with love and healing the soul of America. Among her policy proposals is a $100 billion plan to give reparations to African-Americans. #DemDebate
@nytimes@NBCNews@voxdotcom@TimRyan Amy Klobuchar, “The Senator Next Door” of Minnesota. She’s been elected to the Senate 3 terms, all of which she’s won by landslide margins. #DemDebate
@nytimes@NBCNews@voxdotcom@TimRyan@amyklobuchar@PeteButtigieg Bernie Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont, who describes himself as a Democratic socialist. Sen. Sanders’ progressive policies caught national attention when he took on Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries. #DemDebate
John Delaney, former U.S. representative from Maryland. Delaney is heavily invested in healthcare, having previously owned a healthcare company. He’s introduced his own version of universal health care. #DemDebate
Steve Bullock, governor of conservative Montana, where Donald Trump won by 20 points in the 2016 election. Dems are urging him to run for Montana’s senate seat. One of Bullock’s priorities is “taking on the toxic influence of money in politics.” #DemDebate
Michael Bennet, senator from Colorado. Sen. Bennet is a moderate candidate, who is particularly frustrated by the polarization in Washington. Earlier this year, he underwent treatment for prostate cancer. #DemDebates
@MichaelBennet Kirsten Gillibrand, senator from New York. Sen. Gillibrand is known for her #MeToo advocacy, pushing for reforms in the military and accountability in Congress. Gender equity is a centerpiece of her campaign, according to @voxdotcom#DemDebates
