This spring, I started a project, with the help of a classmate, to keep track of the 2020 Presidential candidates in an accessible, fun way. We created these baseball cards with each candidate’s stats and where they stand on a few issues, in their own words. #DemDebate
I’ve sourced these quotes from various interviews the candidates have done with @nytimes, @NBCNews, @voxdotcom and their respective local outlets, among others. Here are the candidates participating in tonight’s #DemDebate:
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom Marianne Williamson, an author, self-help guru and Oprah’s spiritual adviser. Her campaign is focused on leading with love and healing the soul of America. Among her policy proposals is a $100 billion plan to give reparations to African-Americans. #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom Tim Ryan, an Ohio Congressman and yogi. Rep. Ryan says he is inspired by “solutions that don’t exist.” #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan Amy Klobuchar, “The Senator Next Door” of Minnesota. She’s been elected to the Senate 3 terms, all of which she’s won by landslide margins. #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan @amyklobuchar Pete Buttigieg, the youngest of 2020 candidates. Mayor Pete has received significant media coverage and risen to social media stardom. He is also the only openly gay candidate in the race. #DemDebate (@PeteButtigieg ) ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan @amyklobuchar @PeteButtigieg Bernie Sanders, an independent senator from Vermont, who describes himself as a Democratic socialist. Sen. Sanders’ progressive policies caught national attention when he took on Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries. #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan @amyklobuchar @PeteButtigieg @BernieSanders Elizabeth Warren, Senator from Massachusetts, described by @voxdotcom as “an academic and a believer in the value of scholarship and technical expertise.” Sen. Warren’s signature issue is political corruption. #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan @amyklobuchar @PeteButtigieg @BernieSanders @ewarren Beto O’Rourke, former Congressman of Texas, who rose to fame in a Senate race he narrowly lost to Sen. Ted Cruz during last year’s midterm elections. O’Rourke was the first 2020 Democrat to release a climate change plan. #DemDebate ImageImage
@nytimes @NBCNews @voxdotcom @TimRyan @amyklobuchar @PeteButtigieg @BernieSanders @ewarren @BetoORourke John Hickenlooper, former Governor of Colorado. He’s a centrist candidate that rejects the notion that progressive policies like Medicare-for-All and the Green New Deal should be a “litmus test of what it takes to be a good Democrat.” #DemDebate ImageImage
John Delaney, former U.S. representative from Maryland. Delaney is heavily invested in healthcare, having previously owned a healthcare company. He’s introduced his own version of universal health care. #DemDebate ImageImage
Steve Bullock, governor of conservative Montana, where Donald Trump won by 20 points in the 2016 election. Dems are urging him to run for Montana’s senate seat. One of Bullock’s priorities is “taking on the toxic influence of money in politics.” #DemDebate ImageImage
