I talk to a lot of activists. There is a growing appetite for activism with a harder edge. We can see what Johnson and his charlatans are either attempting to do for real or are pretending because they think they can scare MPs into doing what they want. #TuesdayThoughts thread/
There is something everyone who cares can do. On the 3rd September parliament is back. @SODEMAction will be back to their daily protest. Big numbers there every day will be a huge statement about just how serious and organised we are.
MPs are so concerned about the will of the people? Guess what we are people too and a significant daily presence will remind MPs of that and give courage to those with the power to #BlockTheCoup and stop a no-deal brexit and do the right thing.
If you can spare a few hours and you can get there please support them, and add to the visibility. If you are too far away amplify what is happening. Share photos cheer them on. Flood Sm with images of them beamed our on tv #StopBrexit
Join your local pro Europe group. We need more #bootsnotbots on the ground to get out beyond our twitter bubble to soft leavers and soft remainers. Our group in Chester are planning some door knocking work.
We have lots of other projects on the go and our volunteers are always doing something but more people means we can do more and also new and fresh ideas. So if you haven’t already, please find your local group and offer some time.
Offer them your ideas and your expertise. Support their activities. Share their posts on SM with family and friends especially on Facebook
There is nobody on a white horse going to ride in and save us. We have to do that for ourselves in a multitude of ways #StopBrexit /end

🧵OH had that bloody documentary about Johnson on last night. I know some of you will totally understand this. I can’t tell you how much anger I still have inside me when I remember those traumatic events around the EU ref. 1/
The lies, the bile, the xenophobia, the sheer incompetence, the back stabbing, the disgusting bedfellows that previously normal people suddenly had. It changed politics, it removed all sense of honesty and honour from the political landscape in the UK. 2/
It let some of the darkness of the far right into the souls of mainstream politicians. It divided families. It messed up people’s lives. It came between wives and husbands, parents and children, old friends, siblings. 3/
I lived in mid Wales for many years. For a few months we had to make a regular drive between Newtown and the hospital in Swansea as my OH was having to see a consultant. The shortest route was 88 miles and took over 2 hours. All routes went through a series of towns. 1/
The reason was, infrastructure connections between north and south Wales are still decades behind England. 2/
Some little places on trunk routes now have bypasses but if you take Newtown it took 20 years to get a very short bypass built which speeded up that section of trunk route. 3/
So first of all how many people is that? Can’t be that many as the total population is only 2.8M and secondly how many of those come under the contemplating category? If 50 come and the rest only contemplate then that’s very very different to 50 contemplate and the rest come 🤷🏼♀️
This all seems like some spin to frighten people about foreign criminals. If you follow immigration experts here you will know that the consistently say a very high proportion of asylum claims are found to be legitimate and subsequent allowed.
This sudden presentation by government of this particular problem seems like it’s smoke screen to stop people questioning their overall approach to both immigration and asylum seekers!
It’s so depressing that we have come back to summer 2015 when the press and media are full of provocative headlines and language that allow the dehumanisation of the poor souls who risk their lines in boats. I guess we never left. Empathy appears to be in very short supply.
What would make you all leave your lives and families even if you aren’t happy with your income or your house or your job, and risk your very existence in a leaky boat? You would have to be desperate right? Absolutely desperate. It’s unimaginable.
What a shameful way to speak about human beings, in the headlines, in interviews, in the toxic voxpops. Trying to frighten the people of UK when there is no need and encourage them to be unkind unsympathetic, lacking empathy and compassion. The opposite of what they usually are.
If only we could appease the ERG we could be a progressive government
If only we could blackmail the EU with our departure , they will agree to anything we say.
If only we could get rid of the EU we could be kings of the world! 1/
If only we were out of the EU you could have cheap shoes
If only you hadn’t believed us we would know what to do next.
If only we could get rid of immigrants we could give you a house
2/
If only we could get rid of FOM you could have better hospitals.
If only we could have Boris Johnson in charge the unicorns will dance in your gardens every morning.
If only we had sovereignty we could raise taxes from the richest.

“Now, the extra paperwork puts off firms that lack the critical mass to absorb the extra fixed costs of handling non-EU trade procedures. Over time, the situation may well improve, but some companies have already given up. British consumers have paid the price,”
This is what I kept talked about for so long. Ultimately in the UK what will happen is, as large multinationals mop up the business previously done by the SME sector, they become even more dominant. Even more capital and wealth will fall into fewer hands
