There were a lot of late nights, early mornings, & never-ending meetings during #SaveTheCrew. Interviews, speeches, & countless phone conversations. Grinding and fighting. Rinsing and repeating.
Days like today & weeks like this week, let me tell you - it makes it all worth it.
And I know, to outsiders there might be this feeling of “you’re getting pretty emotional about a business sponsorship”. Yeah, I am. When someone decides they’re going to destroy your community over the lack of them, they become pretty goddamned important to you.
During #SaveTheCrew, I didn’t think about winning the fight as watching the Crew making the playoffs or hoisting a trophy. I think we all defined success as our city coming together as a saved community. Financially backing each other up. Building something new, for Columbus.
All of the things we fought for, all of the landmark events we said would happen - EVERY SINGLE ONE. They’ve all happened or are currently happening. We said it wasn’t over, we said we’d #SaveTheCrew, we said the future would be bright. And here we are.
Glory to Columbus.

Every M-W-F, assuming the weather cooperates, I make a 3 mile round trip walk in the morning to drop my kid off at daycare, and then do the same thing in the evening to pick her up.
90 mins 3 times a week to walk and think.
Here’s what was on my mind today.
As I’m sure you’re aware, my friends and I are putting together both a protest and a fundraiser this coming Wednesday 9/21.
Since this has been garnering a bit of attention both locally & state-wide, I’ve had the typical MAGA bots in my mentions that one would expect when you’re trying to do something cool to make life better for the people in your community, spewing the usual conservative propaganda.
While JD Vance is downtown in a swanky ballroom at the Athletic Club surrounded by millionaires and billionaires, we’ll be in Franklinton registering people to vote and raising money for Ohio’s next senator: @TimRyan.
As of this morning, here’s where we stand with the Supporters’ Shield debacle:
- Fans overwhelmingly hate the decision.
- Current and former players are outraged.
- Coaches are speaking out against it.
- The league has started to remove mentions of the Shield from their website.
And as far as I can tell, the response from the ISC is “not our fault, talk to the SSF” while the SSF’s stance is “please refer questions to the supporter groups” who were possibly informed of the decision maybe on some Slack channel.
This is gross incompetence from a leadership perspective, full stop. Not taking responsibility for your own actions, passing the buck, and then playing the victim on your personal Twitter accounts.
Fans of this league deserve much, much better. So do the players and staffs.
If you think that MLS isn’t going to at least DICUSS creating their own trophy to hand out in place of the Supporters’ Shield, cool. They will. This means the group installed by ISC to care for the Shield could end up killing it. Great fucking job to everyone involved. Bravo. 👏
The 2020 MLS season started in February. The fuckery with the schedule not being balanced has been understood for months, and also isn’t relevant. To wait until the middle of OCTOBER to make this kind of decision is beyond absurd.
A team will finish the reg season at the top of the MLS standings this year. They will win the Supporters’ Shield, period. If the inept leadership of the ISC doesn’t feel like physically awarding the Shield, whatever. The blemish on your collective record as leaders is permanent.
Here’s the thing - those in power, those who refuse to govern for the good of the people, they want you to believe that it’s all hopeless. That your vote doesn’t and won’t count. That you can’t make a difference.
Let me say this clearly.
THEY ARE FULL OF SHIT.
They want us to accept our fate as these disengaged nihilists who don’t participate, don’t believe in democracy, and don’t care what happens to our country or our planet because there’s nothing we can do about it anyway.
It’s the single biggest lie you’ve ever been told.
I just discovered that thing where you DM someone a number, and then that person writes about you.
I think it’s fantastic.
Like this tweet and DM me a number and I’ll write something about you. Let’s go. 👀
2: Your persistent hatred of Olive Garden fuels my inner fire to destroy you. Does the Olive Garden suck? Yes of course it does. But I’ll be a goddamned son of a bitch if I’ll let you slut shame limitless bread options. People need bread to live. How even dare you?
9Sanch6: You’ve been coasting off of my Nordecke championship for too long. Oh look at you, you have a cute kid. OH GOOD FOR YOU. Jesus, you think you’re such hot shit. OH LOOK AT ME I HAVE A CUTE KID AND I WAS ON A TEAM THAT MORGAN CARRIED TO A CHAMPIONSHIP. Get over yourself.
