Every M-W-F, assuming the weather cooperates, I make a 3 mile round trip walk in the morning to drop my kid off at daycare, and then do the same thing in the evening to pick her up.

90 mins 3 times a week to walk and think.

Here’s what was on my mind today. As I’m sure you’re aware, my friends and I are putting together both a protest and a fundraiser this coming Wednesday 9/21.

As many of you know, #Crew96 ownership recently announced their intention to hold a fundraiser for regressive MAGA extremist JD Vance.

That doesn’t sit well with me or the members of my community, so we’ve decided to do something about it.

While JD Vance is downtown in a swanky ballroom at the Athletic Club surrounded by millionaires and billionaires, we’ll be in Franklinton registering people to vote and raising money for Ohio’s next senator: @TimRyan.

As of this morning, here’s where we stand with the Supporters’ Shield debacle:

- Fans overwhelmingly hate the decision.
- Current and former players are outraged.
- Coaches are speaking out against it.
- The league has started to remove mentions of the Shield from their website. And as far as I can tell, the response from the ISC is “not our fault, talk to the SSF” while the SSF’s stance is “please refer questions to the supporter groups” who were possibly informed of the decision maybe on some Slack channel.

If you think that MLS isn’t going to at least DICUSS creating their own trophy to hand out in place of the Supporters’ Shield, cool. They will. This means the group installed by ISC to care for the Shield could end up killing it. Great fucking job to everyone involved. Bravo. 👏 The 2020 MLS season started in February. The fuckery with the schedule not being balanced has been understood for months, and also isn’t relevant. To wait until the middle of OCTOBER to make this kind of decision is beyond absurd.

Here’s a thread about my dog, Gary. On a Saturday morning some time ago, I was sitting at The Market having brunch with Pam when I was tagged in a post by @tokenliberal right here on this very platform. It was from @lauramoldham, and she posted these pictures of a dog that her mother-in-law was looking to re-home.

There were a lot of late nights, early mornings, & never-ending meetings during #SaveTheCrew. Interviews, speeches, & countless phone conversations. Grinding and fighting. Rinsing and repeating.

Days like today & weeks like this week, let me tell you - it makes it all worth it. And I know, to outsiders there might be this feeling of “you’re getting pretty emotional about a business sponsorship”. Yeah, I am. When someone decides they’re going to destroy your community over the lack of them, they become pretty goddamned important to you.

The #Crew96 Supporter Summit is tonight. Believe this is the 7th (?) time I’ve emceed the event, and man have we been through some highs and lows. Being told in 2018 that there was realistically nothing we could do to save the team, obviously the lowest point. Turned out okay.
