Patients streamed in on people’s shoulders, some on wooden carts, a doctor said. "At one point we had to pull shutters down, because we couldn't take in more people. The brutality with which people had been beaten, it'll never leave me.”

The four doctors at the 15-bed hospital didn't sleep day and night, as patients streamed in, their cries filling the air, and hundreds gathered outside. Ambulances didn't come until a court in a midnight hearing ordered police to allow them in, docs said. in.reuters.com/article/uk-ind…
On Thursday, victims of the violence were still trickling in, and traumatised families sat inside, some who had escaped their homes to save their lives, others whose houses had been burnt down or destroyed and they had nowhere to go.

Shabana Parveen said she was hit with rods by a mob while pregnant. Her Hindu neighbour helped her escape.

"I didn’t think my baby would survive,” Parveen said.

The kid yawned, stretching his tiny arms. He was yet to see his father. Parveen looked dazed and weary thinking of her vandalized home. “We’ve lost everything,” she said, her eyes drifting away.
