Full Ascent
A promise
Swearing an oath, vow, or obligation
Willingly giving full ascent
What does it mean for one to give these things in word, deed, or from the heart?
Let each declare the verdict...is it forced or fully willing
"I further promise and swear that I will, in all things, act as a true and faithful Brother, and will caution my Brother by word, sign or token."
Is it simply words memorized, contemplated upon, and repeated before others in rhetoric?
Words spoken with meaning and "intentions" to follow thru...with "intentions" to keep...
Why must the promise be spoken aloud before witnesses?
If it was given silently within ones heart, does that make it any less true?
Does seeing it written, hearing it spoken, or sensing it change what it is?
The girl and boy are in the pentagram.
He is kneeling on the floor with his arms up and hands facing palms up
She is standing and looking down at him, her palms pressed against his
Seven men and one woman...the Queen of Heaven
Each promise is made with a weapon drawn
A weapon pointing at the children
The girl contemplates
A fleeting thought...is there a way out of this?
What will happen if she runs? If she fights?
But are the weapons just for show
Strings are drawn, arrows in place
She understands there is no bounds to the evil in the hearts of those who stand around this circle
She tries to console herself with the thought that the promise is ONLY between her and the boy
But she knows the truth
Forever she is bound to THEM
He is dutifully reciting his part of the vow to her
What is really happening here in this process of promise making?
By "willful words" the two become yoked
Committed in mind to give a part of themselves to protect one another
"...of my own free will and accord, do I solemnly vow that my brothers friends shall be my friends, his enemies shall be my enemies..."
Faithfulness, duty, honor, integrity, friendship, brotherhood
All good things, right?
It is good to share the burden of the yoke with thy Brother
Isn't this what God desires?
The woman notices the girls hesitation and her head tilted to the side in thought
That slight hesitancy comes with a price
The woman snaps her fingers
All weapons are now pointed directly at the boy
He purposely presses his fingertips against the girls
In that moment, allegorically, she lets all fleeting thoughts go...giving way to the yoke resting upon her small shoulders...and continues the vow in full
"I further solemnly promise to guard...all secrets of princes, and to communicate them to none..."
Full ascent is not just between two people
Who really is ones "full consent" or "will" given to?
High Priest: "Do you here by acknowledge and "give full ascent" to all the previous pledges
And according to your duty to learn from them along with the sacred texts, the constitution and Regulations and further the bi-laws of the conclave..."
By marriage
By promises
By oaths and obligations
By full ascent of ones will
What does it really mean to be yoked in the "Brotherhood"?
