Singapore & South Korea have *already* controlled #COVID19, all without massive shutdowns! (& US/Europe can do the same AFTER suppressing cases for 1-2mo)
How? By staying #OneStepAhead with:
🔗CONTACT TRACING🔗
(See pix below! Collab with epidemiologist @marcelsalathe)
🧵 1/6
The problem:
COVID-19 is contagious a few days BEFORE you get symptoms. So by the time you know you have the virus, it could've already hopped to someone else.
The solution:
Self-isolate if you *or a close recent contact* knows they're infected!

Look, this lockdown will be a toll on our mental health. I envy Singaporeans who can just *go* to satay restaurants.
So here's a source of⭐️Determination⭐️:
The sooner we CRUSH the curve, the sooner we can switch to testing+tracing...
& life returning to mostly normal.

Finally, as a digital rights advocate who open sources (public domain) all their code+art:
🕵️♀️Contact tracing CAN and SHOULD be done in a privacy-preserving way.
Client-side crypto ain't that hard. We just need to demand both our health AND privacy are protected.

TL;DR
😱 COVID-19 is contagious *before* you feel sick
🔗 But we can stay #OneStepAhead with contact tracing
🕵️♀️ (that protects privacy)
⭐️ And this gives me hope, determination & better mental health to power through this lockdown... so I can eat satay again soon.

Was concerned coz my fellow QPOC pals said it's problematic, but honestly, I think it's a *great* film. An *important* film.
And, speaking as someone with mental illness, I'm glad this film exists.

I don't share this often: I have gory intrusive thoughts.
Never acted on 'em, but still. I was an angry, narcissistic loner kid. When I hear a news story of a shooter, I think – if it weren't for LGBTQ-supportive pals & counselling – I could've been a monster.
[thread 2/5]
THAT'S the point Joker was making: if we don't better support our most vulnerable, lots of people *will* go down that path.
I thought it was dang clear Joker was NOT glorifying monsters, but *showing us* we need to change our society so it stops creating monsters.
