Really important point here from @CT_Bergstrom explaining how crucial consistent messaging is in a situation like the current pandemic. With no drugs or vaccines available, all we have is changing behaviour and that requires a clear message and trust.

A lot of attention has been focused on studies using chloroquine and other drugs to treat #covid19 patients. But there are also numerous trials that are aiming to use these drugs to *prevent* the disease. Story is here. Short thread. sciencemag.org/news/2020/04/t…
Why is this important? As long as there is no vaccine available to prevent #covid19 any drug that could be used to prevent the disease would be a huge boon. It could help lower the burden on hospitals, protect vulnerable populations and keep the health care system functioning.
It could be a particularly important tool to help fight #covid19 in poorer countries. As Nicholas White told me: “In fragile health care systems, if you start knocking out a few nurses and doctors, the whole thing can collapse.”
