CV1/ COVID-19 TREATMENTS & TRIALS, VIA EXPERTS
(Temp replacement for )
I try to summarize recent info by Infectious Disease (ID) experts amidst rapid change
This is not on vaccines (~year off), but proposed treatments to lessen likelihood or severity. Image
CV2/@UCSF’s Chair of Dept of Medicine @Bob_Wachter daily tweets helpful COVID Chronicles, enumerated here:
FOLLOW HIM
Also, read his books.
CV3/These drugs are in the news.
AZT Azithromicin
CQ Chloroquine
HCQ Hydroxycloroquine
Real experts are very cautious about efficacy/safety of these for COVID-19, especially if used outside well-controlled trials.

CV4/ Amidst pandemic, nobody wants good treatments more than pro’s, but they want good Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), not anecdotes.
For a fine overview, watch 03/19/20 talk by @UCSF's Prof. Annie Luetkemeyer @annieluet, annotated here:
a1-14
CV5/ Then on 03/24/20, @Bob_Wachter did an educational 28-minute Q&A with @annieluet, which gave her time to explain terminology, answer questions on drugs, zinc, Vitamin C, other treatments.
It's all worth watching, but is summarized here:
b1-12
CV6/ On 03/26/20 a @UCSF Research Town Hall included an 11-minute update by @annieluet on UCSF COVID-19 Clinical Trials. It's all too easy for people to fool themselves. Professionals are cautious, must run careful trials.
c1-10
CV7/ On 04/02/20, @Bob_Wachter ran another Grand Rounds session, with 4 presentations, Q&A and then a panel with 5 more experts.
e1-e18
CV8/ Because the Hydroxycloroquine issue keeps getting raised by Trump, here's a thread that just pulls out the HCQ discussions at @UCSF from amidst the more general COVID-19 information.
Hint: people there read the literature & a re very cautious.

CV9/ All for now, but expect much more, as credible trials get going.
Early medical results often seem inconsistent, or find that a drug works only for some people or may even harm some. Nobody wants good treatments more than the professionals ... and they are VERY busy
CV10/ COVID (@UCSF) Chronicles has been joined by a San Diego counterpart, COVID (@UCSanDiego), to be collected in this thread.

CV11/ Trump pushes Hydroxychloroquine for masses outside clinical trials, almost certainly to be hailed as COVID Conqueror, as described in this thread. It relies on fact that most people recover from COVID-19 anyway.
Clinical trials needed

CV12/ Great 04/07 interview, Michael Krasny(MK) with @UCSF Chair of Dept of Medicine @Bob_Wachter,
48 min, listen

Box has more specific numbers, but same story as:

If most recover, sugar pills work too & less side effects Image
CV13/ In parallel with @Bob_Wachter’s COVID (@UCSF) Chronicles,
I'm collecintg COVID (@UCSanDiego) Chronicles, by @calonghurst. Equal time for SoCal!
