It is globally accepted that the best approach, so far, to stop #COVID19 is by curtailing its spread.
It was on this premise that a shutdown of Ekiti State for initial 14days was declared on Sunday, March 29, 2020 and with effect from 11:59pm on Monday, 30th March, 2020 with the aim of protecting ourselves. #COVID19 
The curfew is effectively one week old today. We still have a week more to go and I enjoin you all to persevere a little more in our best interest. Don't forget, to defeat the #COVID19 pandemic, it requires our collective responsibility.
This move became inevitable because it is better to err on the side of caution. #COVID19
As a responsible and responsive government, we are conscious of the hardship the shutdown must have brought on our people, especially the poor and most vulnerable citizens among us. #COVID19
I did promise then that the government will intervene in the best way possible to ease the effects of the hardship on our people. I am, therefore, addressing you today at the flag off of the distribution of relief materials in fulfilment of the promise I made to Ekiti-kete.
The relief material, which are in the form of food packs, are to be distributed to all identified vulnerable people, most of whom are mined from the register of @WorldBank Support Programme, domiciled with the Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning that covers the 16 LGAs of [..]

I must emphasise that the food packs are meant for identified individuals on the vulnerable persons register and their respective households. These packs are not meant to be distributed for streets or wards to share. #COVID19

Under no circumstances must the seal on the packs be tampered with till they get to the identified beneficiaries. #COVID19
Ekiti-kete, I assure you all that this exercise has no political colouration. The allocations will be depoliticised, therefore our community and religious leaders as well as well as traditional rulers, are actively involved to ensure smooth distribution of the items. #COVID19
I urge those saddled with the responsibility of distributing these relief materials to ensure that they reach the most vulnerable people in our communities and households across the State. #COVID19
The targeted beneficiaries are the aged, less fortunate and the physically challenged in Ekiti State. Any government official or private citizen involved in unscrupulous practices with regards to the distribution of these items will be severely sanctioned. #COVID19
As a responsible government, we deemed it necessary to reach out to the vulnerable ones in our society, despite the financial situation of the State Government, which is a direct reflection of the current global recession. #COVID19
This first phase of the package will be distributed to at least 20,000 vulnerable households across Ekiti State, while we are hoping to do more as resources permit. #COVID19
In addition to the relief materials being distributed today, the State Government is working out modalities on how to give financial assistance to those whose daily income is affected by this shutdown. #COVID19
We are doing everything possible to make sure that the stimulus gets to those who genuinely deserve it. #COVID19
On behalf of the people and government of Ekiti State, I appreciate those who have been assisting the less-privileged since the beginning of this crisis. I thank all the public office holders and private citizens who have stepped up to support our people in their hour of need.
I also assure the people who are supporting the government by donating into the account specifically opened to fight #COVID19 in Ekiti State, that their donations will be judiciously utilized for the purpose it is meant for.
Once again, I appeal to well-meaning individuals, Corporate Organizations and NGOs to complement our efforts in cushioning the effects of the monster, #COVID19 on the people of Ekiti State.
The least we can do during this difficult time, is to identify the needy around us and give them the needed support for their survival. Our efforts to make life more meaningful to our people are not limited to the distribution of these foodstuffs & essential goods only. #COVID19
On Saturday, 4th April, 2020, we started the decontamination and disinfestation of public places across the State, with a view to curbing the spread of infectious diseases including the raging coronavirus pandemic. #COVID19
I enjoin you all to continue to follow the precautionary measures of keeping social distancing, washing of hands with soap under clean running water, above all, let us obey the stay-at-home order, to stay alive. Remember, we cannot be too careful at this precarious situation.
