Wisconsin's spring election is happening today. With so much uncertainty surrounding this election, here are some answers to our most commonly asked questions for voting today. #WisconsinPrimary#WisconsinPandemicVoting#COVID19
1. My polling place moved, where can I find my polling place?
You can look up your polling place on MyVote.wi.gov. Note: Many polling places has moved so please double-check before you head out to vote.
2. I still have my absentee ballot, can I still turn it in?
Yes! You have two options. You can get your ballot postmarked today OR drop it at your polling place or clerk’s office by 8pm. Drop boxes are available in some areas (check with clerk for location and deadlines).
3. I mailed by ballot but it hasn’t gotten to my clerk yet, will it count?
Yes! All absentee ballots must be postmarked by April 7 and received by April 13 at 4pm. If you sent it in, your ballot will count if it arrives by April 13. Regardless, you can no longer vote in person.
4. If Imailed my ballot but my clerk doesn’t have it yet, can I vote at the polls?
No. If you go to vote when you've been issued an absentee ballot, the poll worker will ask if you have returned it yet. If it's been mailed, it's considered returned so they won't let you vote.
5. If I did not request an absentee ballot, what are my options?
If you did not request an absentee ballot, you can go to the polls and vote in-person between 7am and 8pm. Many polling locations, including those in Madison, are offering curbside voting.
6. If I requested but have not received my ballot, can I get a ballot emailed to me?
The Wisconsin Elections Commission clarified that if you requested but have not received your ballot, you cannot receive a replacement via email. To vote, you must go in-person to the polls.
7. I turned in a ballot without a witness signature under Judge Conley’s ruling. Does my ballot count?
No, your absentee ballot will not count and state law does not allow another ballot to be issued.
I agree that #7 in particular is really unfair, but the Wisconsin Elections Commission clarified last night that there is no remedy for voters who followed Judge Conley’s order allowing absentee voting without a witness while it was in force.
There's no doubt in my mind we should've postponed in-person voting for the health & safety of our communities. That said, this is exactly why elections matter. If you vote today, please practice #SocialDistancing. Stay safe & healthy. #WisconsinElection#WisconsinPandemicVoting
