Meetings with private sector included national group leaders. The way we are responding to the pandemic is that public & private sector must work as one team.
All private hospitals will adhere to Standard operating procedures and clinical guidelines of NICD
When we get complaints, the health dept will step in. We do not need the authority of the private hospital to step in. We are the service provider & regulator, so we can step in.
Compliance is expected. It is mandatory for private hospitals to cooperate.
There have been concerns about a number of hospitals. We looked at a hospital in Ladysmith, and this week, St Augustines. Other hospitals are also being monitored.
As far as St Augustines in concerned, the hospital has been closed. There are no new outpatients. The fumigation process has started. The hospital needs to contain the patients within and monitor the Patients Under Investigation.
There is no problem of compliance here. As of 2 days ago 66 people were tested, of that 48 were staff.
Provincial Dept. of Health must investigate the infections . We want to know exactly what happened
The relationship between the public & private health sectors is important. We need to pool together on the basis of need.
We should be able as government to determine the price that we need to pay. It needs to be understood that government has an obligation for the whole nation.
There is a particular responsibility of government over particular resources.
There is clear cooperation with the private hospitals and private labs. We are operating as one system, both public and private sectors.
Our meeting with private hospitals has been very fruitful and there is a clear understanding. We will be met with cooperation going forward we will handle this together
The issues that brought me to the province, was to get the briefing with regards to the private hospitals and the report from the province.
