/n Full account on how OYO tried to manipulate and scam us as their partner hotel. This is the story for all of you who wonder how a big corporate with so much public attention can cheat people so blatantly. (All events happened before COVID-19).
/n In July 2018, OYO approached us with a really good deal to build an OYO branded townhouse on our 800 sq yds plot in Gurugram and lease it out over a 7 year lock-in period. After months of negotiation and finalization, we entered into a legal agreement with them in Nov 2018.
/n This became a big project for us. It required a huge investment. We had to take a bank loan for the same. After an year of stress and hard work, we finally got the project completed on time. In Nov 2019 when OYO was supposed to take over our property, they stopped responding.
/n On insisting to move forward, we were informed that our project team got replaced. We were given a new project manager to work with. The new project manager started showing signs of non-cooperation and delaying the process of taking over the property.
/n After about 45 days of struggling to move forward, he told us that the company has decided to change the deal. They wanted to enter into a ‘profit sharing’ agreement instead. He shared the new agreement over email. Their new agreement was completely drafted in OYO’s favor.
/n We had done a lot of investment in the project. And made many of the things only as per OYO’s preference. I reached out to all their senior management team for Gurugram and India region multiple times through Whatsapp, Linkedin and Email. They all stopped responding!
/n Instead of coming upfront and letting us know anything officially, they ‘arranged’ calls for us. These calls were always taken by people who had no idea about our project and wanted to hear the whole case again.
/n At the end of the call, they would say they do not have any information and they will connect us with the ‘right’ person. Their Gurugram ‘business head’ threatened us to take the new deal, else try them in court. ‘Jo karna hai kar lo’ (Do whatever you can) - were his words.
/n I got a call from their partner support team. I asked them to share their email id so I can mail them all of my concerns. However, the lady replies that their partner support team does not have any email id. She does not know anything about our project.
/n OYO's partner support team does not have an email id! Can you believe this is one of India's most values tech startup!

/n We got no calls or messages from them after this call. Even though they promised us that someone will call back. But don’t they always just back out on their promises? We had already learnt that the hard way.
/12 I hope you do not fall prey to companies like OYO, as we did. Please retweet this story so that OYO stops fooling with people’s businesses and can at least get their support team an email!
